This reminds me of the book 1984.
1983-Midnight, a lot of people started to panic thinking something horrible was going to happen, that's how much of a strong impact the book had on people, but...nothing happened. Just like 99-06-12.
Honestly, I think that 06-06-06, not the date, but the 3 6s representing Satan is a load of bull*****. Sorry to the religious people but I'm just being honest. Just like people picturing an evil face out of all the smoke caused by the lost of the twin towers, its smoke haha! Its bound to make some faces that could look like Satan.

Anyways, to stay on topic, I really don't care if we die in 2012 if it is true, there's nothing to live for. We're born, we witness a few changes in the world, we're dead and that's it. Its not like we should be sad since we'll never see each other again because we won't have the time to be sad once we're dead. The only sad thing would be if again some people died, cause then we'll be able to be sad about them being gone.
Hmm, hope you understood that...

But, I don't think anything is going to happen anyways.

As you can see, since the solar system is only 4.6 x 109 (4.6 billion) years old, and will only be in existence for a grand total of 1010 (10 billion) years, our calculated probability for an exact planetary alignment to occur is once in 86 billion-trillion-trillion-trillion years! (That's a 86 followed by 45 zeros years!) The odds strongly favor that an exact planetary alignment will NEVER occur throughout the entire history of the solar system.

And it doesn't hold any significance at all.

Maybe the Mayan's just got lazy and ended their calendar there for no reason.
Give a reason why the prophets stopped writing the bible?
Give an exact date of when Africa was first inhabited.
Give the reason behind the Mayan Calendar ending on 2012.

You can't.

Yo

It's interesting to some, which is the only reason it holds any significance, does any one really believe that the world is going to end on said date?
But some people like this sort of stuff, to the ones who are going underground it will probably be like christmas, they can create little clubs and groups, make theories and etc, and when the end doesn't happen, they will set a new date and start again.
People like this sort of stuff, whenever I read the newspaper it's always about how Bird flu will kill everyone and how that there's a 50% chance we will be nuked tommorow.

(sort of unrelated)
In 9 days ( I think 9), there creating a black hole in a lab (can't remember where, somewhere in Europe) and a lot of people are suggesting that it will destroy the Earth

(More unrelated)
I love the book 1984!

I think you're talking about the LHC?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider

Quote:

The collider is currently undergoing commissioning while being cooled down to its final operating temperature of approximately 1.9 K (−271.25 °C). Initial particle beam injections were successfully carried out on 8-11 August, 2008, the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for 10 September 2008, and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008.

Yeah I remember the news about this one.
It's got a little more to it than just creating black holes.

EDIT:
I just read that there is already a new collider on the table, the ILC wil be an even more powerfull collider and should start somewhere between 2015 and 2020

Basically a big particle beam that can cause Quantum physical chaos. That's great. Good find!
Also, on the 26th of August it was said to have been brought under litigation that the LHC posed a threat to all of Europe. 8 more days I say. :-D

Hey, thought I'd say what I think about this. Well, what I heard anyway. There's this world-renowned psychic called Sylvia Brown, and she said the world is going - no, wait... something about "the end of times"... would happen in 100 years. Personally I think too many people rely on psychics, and should just figure things out on their own, but... Well... that's what I heard.

But what I think? There'll probably be some kind of nuke war that'll start sometime or something, but I don't think I'll guess when. I hate knowing the future, it takes the fun out of it. <_< ... Something comes to mind... "No nukes! No nukes! No nukes!" That movie was great, lol

But I doubt it'll happen at 12.21.12, scientists just want credit for something... to have the value of their own existence recognized or something like that. Or maybe they just want to scare people?

You see, the thing about psychics is, they've been doing that for Centuries. They give you some vague premonition of events to happen, and they never come completely true. Nostradamus has tried to predict many times the end of the world based on biblical events, and has thus far failed every time. Though people try to recreate the story to fit current time, it just simply isn't the same.

I really doubt there will be a nuke war. Underdeveloped countries have seen the awesome power of nuclear weapons and would love to get their hands on it. And trust me they will be able to if time presents that offer. But for other, more developed countries to resort to nuclear weapons is a bit far fetched. Yes we have nuclear weapons but I really doubt we would use them. Militias in the couple of great countries have technology so advanced that they would typically do more direct damage than Omni-damage like a Nuclear weapon would. Less casualties, destroy the target.

Hm... yeah, guess you're right. I can't really think of any kind of end that would occur in that case, other than some asteroid hurling towards Earth at some point. Still, I don't think that's very likely, but then you never know. Even a 1% chance is still a chance.

But does anyone actually want the so-called "apocalypse"/"end of times", whatever you want to call it, to happen? Is someone really that crazy? Personally I want to see how far technology will advance before anything happens to us. Wonder when the day will be when/if we migrate to another planet. That sounds weird when I say it like that...

Well, I think everyone should look at it this way: the Mayans predicted this, but they never predicted the end of their whole civilization. Not a very trustworthy group if you ask me...

I personally don't care if it ends or not. If it does, fine, if not, then life moves on. But if there's some divine power that is actually going to cause the world to end, then there's obviously going to be something after death to move on to.

I agree with Blackout. If it does end, then so be it. If the world is "Destined" to end on that date. Then there's absoloutly nothing we can do to stop it. You'll get people who are happy about it - Emo's - and you'll get people who aren't happy about it - Everybody else - but not being happy about something doesn't change it.

For instance. I, like hundreds of thousands of other people - Don't like going to school. Yet, if I don't go, my parents will be imprisoned or fined. I don't want that either. So I have to not like it. Nothing will change.

It's like that with the world. If the so called "Awaiting Death" appears and smites us all. The least we can hope for is that it will be quick and painless. And if not, then who cares? We can treat it as a joke.

The reason I say this is because I honestly believe that this won't happen. If there is a God, and He/She is angry with us, why don't they come down and tell us "hey, you've been bad, prepare to die". to which I will promptly - I love that word - respond "Aye, we have been bad, but as a God - an all knowing, presumably, have you not been bad, you have unleashed weapons to kill, words to hurt, and personalities to maim. Not to mention War and Famine. All for what? To see how advanced we could go before we anhilated ourselves?Or maybe for sport"

I do not fear death, nor whatever lies in the abyss beyond. It is a path we must all walk. And if it so happens that a Religion is right, then I'll embrace that religion. Or whatever. And if not. Then that's cool. I like to think I can be kind without fear of being punished if I am not.

And if the world does reset? Hopefully I'll be married to Keira Knightly with my first album going Octuple-Platinum.
