Lost prophets were Nu metal, I checked.

It may say it but I have Jimmy Eat world's earliest album and they really are not Emo, not the lyrics, or anything, they don't even 'scream', not that all emo music does.

apparently Lostprophets are making a new album and they said they wanted to make it more like the older stuff, which is good, cos it was awesome.

well yeh Not all emo music scream, just Emocore (Emotional Harcore). Propper Emo music is bands like Death Cab For A Cutie & Hawthown Heights, though some songs from HH has screaming init. but there still classed as propper Emo bands.

This is Deathcore- Nothing but screaming, Emos soicialize themselfs with Deathcore
Bring Me The Horizon: For Stevie Wonders Eyes Only

This Is Alturnative- Not emo, only wannabees, Alturnative and Scene listen to this type of music
My Chemical Romance: Black Parade

This Is Emocore- Probbebly the most faveable in the Emo Sub-culture
Silverstein: My Heroine

This Is Emo- The real emo music, no screaming init at all, just sad and depressive
Death Cab For A Cutie: You Will Be Loved

Because there are different styles of Emo music such as emocore and screamo, what is Emo music is an ambiguous definition.

Alternative music is the best, although I don't like MCR that much, but loads of other bands I like are Alternative.

Propper Emo music is bands like Death Cab For A Cutie
HA!! LOOOOOOOOL

Death Cab For Cutie: Alternative-Indie rock-pop style
Please, don't compare them to that (I'm sorry but) screaming emo stuff that makes me put the volume knob to 0.

Honestly, the screamo music gives me the chills, when I look at the video, not because i wanted to, but someone else wanted me to for example, I'm always thinking, "look at the guy man, he's having a heart attack! is he gonna die on stage or something!?"
seriously, no offense tray, but I don't get how someone can listen to that all day. Music is all about rhythm, harmony, melody. Sadly, and admit it everyone, we might like where a part of the song was headed, till the scream started overlaying it all.

Now bare in mind that I'm VERY open-minded about music. Proof, I like so many music genres:Rock, jazz, classic, nu-metal, alternative, rock pop, R&B, alternative rock, some rap, as long as the rapper stays in rhythm..which my friends usually don't care about, pop, electronic, some grunge like nirvana, indie rock, 70s&80s music....etc.

And I'm not kidding, i can give you good bands for everyone of those styles.

Lyric wise, I'm not saying I'm always listening to happy stuff, SOAD, Linkin Park, Disturbed, etc. is not always happy, but I just think that emo goes too far.

.: Changing Everything :.

I always get the feeling that emo music (the screamo kind) hides behind a few predefined topics, themes and subjects... You have a few basic parts: screams, the never changing lyrics and loud downtuned guitars. It never changes, there isn't a lot of variety going on. I think that kind of music is mainly made to please a trend and a scene. Kids identify with the lyrics and the anger expressed by those bands because they also identify with the whole idea of being emotional and sick of life.

That has nothing to do with real music to me. I don't say that all emo music is bad. But band only plagiarize themselves to jump on the band wagon.

Death Cab For Cutie my have that genre on Wikipida but wiki are writen by Critics, not the sites owner nor mods.

Emo music is all whats it tje lyrics, for EG: Brokencyde, its Screamo-Pop, but because of the lyrics its also in the genre of Emo.
Emo is'nt "1" genre, there is'nt a band thats just Emo, its all in the lyrics. if the Lyrics are emotional, depressive, heartbrake, anger or anything like that has the emo genre putten init.
This does'nt mean 2pack shakura is emo btw. nor Eminem

The fact that your type of music labels itself based on the emotions that the lyrics or singer exerts is pretty lame I think. Music Genre has always been based on the rhythm or sound that it displays. Not how the singer feels or what they lyrics are about.
Pink Floyd made a song about a bicycle. What do you call that kind of music? Psychedelic pot smoking music? No. It is still rock and forever will remain classified as rock. Sure the era may play a roll but that makes no difference.
Jazz? Displayed by it's position of swing rhythms.
Country? Electric guitar, and don't you forget it.
Trance music? Techno music with vocals.
When you walk in to a music store, do they have a category called Emo?

Labeling music as emo is just an excuse to add it to your own personal collection of things that ARE emo. A personal opinion as you will. As far as I'm concerned, it's whiny rock.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

emo is a way of exspresing your feelings.
Its hard to exsplain for you to understand, but Emo music is the main stream for the cult, were addicted to it, we like the emotions in the music which is why the music turned into a life style, a way of life for us. giving us a reason for living, telling us that theres no need to need to be depressed, Emo music is even better than anti-depressents.
Im Emotionaly Depressed, one word that pulled me down can put me into deep depretion, but listening to the music makes me feel better mainly cos of the screaming, cos when ur depressed, sad and angry all u need to do is scream, thats the best why i can put it for u.

its not realy genre inaway, its a life stream. a way of life

Think before you post.
First, you say:giving us a reason for living, but you clearly make it clear in your sig how it ain't working since you think "Life is worthless"

Then, you contradict yourself even more! you acutally said the opposite of your first part right after the other without me having to look elsewhere.
telling us that theres no need to be depressed, Emo music is even better than anti-depressents.
Im Emotionaly Depressed

I'm sorry but accept it, you can't discuss this properly, you can't discuss this at all.

And might I add that you're practicly saying that Wikipedia's information is lies? Oh boy you don't know what you're talking about man. ;)

Death Cab For Cutie I see more as indie than anything.

They have the potential to be classified as emo, but I think they fit fine just at where they're at.

I think classification of music by feelings is kinda simple minded, because music can be interpreted different by everyone. One might find it depressing - the other might think otherwise.

And I think this topic is getting waaay to far from the main subject..and it's starting to get heated...but that's just my opinion.. o.o

I like Atreyu, but MCR always sounded much more emo than them to me. Either way, I don't care what sub-genre of rock it is as long as it isn't screamo. I hate that. Other than that I don't care if they're talking about nuclear war, cutting themselves, or being pissed at an ex-girlfriend for cheating on them, to me rock is rock.
