What is Satanism? What is required? What are the necessary actions that must take place to consider oneself a Satanist? The answer to all of this and more...will not be found in the following writing. However, there is a book, I have been told, that addresses all these issues. The Satanic...something or other. What I would like to talk about, however, is the concept of study in Satanism, and some of the people who choose to ignore this very important factor. There are a great deal of people who believe Satanism entails worshipping "The Devil". They think we kill babies. They think we drink blood. They think all sorts of nonsense that one should not even bother considering. Apart from these people, are the few who know what true Satanism is. The people who know that Satanism did not exist until the phrase was keyed by Anton Szandor LaVey, and the founding of The Church of Satan. Somewhere in between, there are people who understand what Satanism is, on the outside, but at the core, are completely oblivious. They seem to think that all Satanism means is to hate God. Sure, they will tell you they know what is going on, but most of these explanations are simple lines quoted straight from The Satanic Bible. If I wanted to convince someone I was a Christian, I could quote a few of the commandments, without any understanding of what Christianity is. Does that make me a Christian? Not if I don't believe in God. (Which I most certainly do not...) So, what am I getting to exactly? Satan is, as many have put it, "the original rebel." It is this rebellion that is part of why Satanism is called what it is, and what attracts people to it. Some of these people are the people who hate Christianity, who hate God. My question to them is, why hate something that doesn't exist? It seems that their annoyance with the Christian dogma extends beyond the religion itself, and right down to the core of "hating God." Such energy seems wasted on hating that which is not real. If these people call themselves Satanism simply for the reason that they are anti-Christian, then what is the point? I do not call myself a Satanist simply because I am against the idea of the Christian God. I call myself a Satanist because I live in a Satanic fashion. The day I read The Satanic Bible was a day of overwhelming homecoming for me; a jaw dropping anxiety that did not dissipate, even after I folded the last page of the book over, revealing "YANKEE ROSE" written mysteriously on it's surface. It was like finding out I was from another planet; shocking in a sense, but all the same, the pieces fit together perfectly. I then ordered The Satanic Scriptures, and all the while as I waited, I watched countless videos, listened to audio interviews, read the Church of Satan website, etc, etc. So my point here is, why do those who have read say, a portion of the CoS website, "half" of The Satanic Bible, or one or two other incomplete pieces of Satanic information, stop? It's like instant gratification, all over again. A child walking into a toystore, and blindly picking a toy that he will no doubt be bored with in a week, simply out of the fear that he might not find the one he is REALLY looking for. They read bits and pieces, a few of the Nine Satanic Statements, and then immediately, they slap "SATANIST" all over their myspace, including images of Baphomets and hell only knows what else, and stop there, dead in their tracks. I was not looking for a label when I read The Satanic Bible. I found a label, but not for the petty point of "being more badass" or being different. I was different before I found out about Satanism. Satanism simply encouraged me to EMBRACE this difference, unlike so many other philosophies or faiths which taught me that I was much safer with my head shaved, in a white robe, like everyone else, neatly filed into a line. I label myself a Satanist because of the PRIDE it instills me with; because of the power I feel as a Satanist. It is not from some petty longing for a place to belong. The people who come looking for "Satanic brothers" and other such nonsense, to me, miss the point. Satanism is not about togetherness, and community. It was a realization of what I was already comfortable with to begin with; walking outside of the heard, as an outsider. It is not about finding "others" who share your views, and embracing them. It is about living life, YOUR LIFE, to the absolute fullest, without the emotional weakness that would require you to fit snugly into a community, or spend your life waiting for a God to save you. If people feel the need to squeeze, and cramp themselves into this very specific mold, they do not belong there, and would feel uncomfortable trapped within it's inner workings, and inevitably, squeezed out, perhaps forcefully! There are other faiths, other beliefs that will fit any shape or size. They are custom made to fit ANYBODY, though they may make you feel something like this genetleman here. ![]() This is all very personal to me, and I hope it does not come off as much of a rant as it probably does. I just think it is important for people to realize what they TRULY are. Whether that be a Satanist or not, without pretending... without simply "wearing" a label. I do not wear Satanism as a label. It is more like a tattoo then a loose fitting shirt, burned into every inch of my being, into my heart and mind, saturating the very blood that pumps through my veins. It is not some petty name, but instead, a powerful entity that vibrates into my soul (or lack thereof, perhaps!) and enhances everything I do. I do not question it, I do not disagree with it, I do not STRUGGLE with it. All the same, since I feel so emotionally driven, so perfectly comfortable and unsettlingly confident in Satanis, why would I NOT want to read more? Why would I not want to study? Why would I not want to seek out every ounce of information that I can possibly find about that which I have lived by for so long? That is where the problem here lies. But, I am sure you got the gist of that already... Satan and I, we get along just fine... |

Lol. That sounded a little bit too blunt to be completely legit, but thank you. That still means a lot. |
