well, for starters let's say Soccer.. Football, is the most popular sport in the world, un-arguably. Although there is something that is debatable. It is so popular throughout the world.. why are there only "so many elite teams" I mean in a sport where , I'll guess off the top of my head; 50+ countries play religiously.. yet there are only maybe 10-15 mega powers.. maybe even less. Why aren't more countries winners than not. I know you can't win 'em all, but then again year after year it's consistently about Brazil, Italy, Germany and France. If not all of them at least 1 of them. They play just as much soccer in (example) Japan and Saudi Arabia.. but they SUCK.. why would that be |

Because not every country stresses importance on that one thing. Like in Japan, electronics are A LOT more important and interesting culturally than soccer. Accordingly, a narrow minded point of view causes you to ask questions like this. Edited by Rockman, Jul 15 2008, 04:40 PM.

players get better by practice. They have all the assets to play soccer in Italy, just as much as they do in the oriental east (a soccer ball). They even have a bigger population in the oriental east than continental Europe! yet I assume they don't practice as much seeing the quality of their players is low. Then they result to cheating.. (2002) What Joey P.. you saying Germany is no good? Edited by .Punxx, Jul 16 2008, 03:26 AM.

Well, JP you are right, at the moment Spain is the best nation in the world at soccer, not far behind is Italy.. but I gotta give it to Spain just for winning the Euro. Anyways, notice I said consistently I mean, say what you will but Spain is no where near as consistent as Brazil, France, Italy or Germany. Fact being, those 4 countries (unless they play each other in an early round) have consitenlty been a top 4 (more/less) in world tournaments, think back to around 1990 which is roughly the around begining of both of our lifetimes. Anyways back on topic; Just because you have more people in a country doesn't mean you'll be good. Conversley if you get organized, which is not very hard to do for soccer practicing, you'll go somewhere. The Russians had 1 time, during the Soviet era had a great sports program when it came to hockey and soccer. Their population was a top 5 in the world, and being the communists they were, they put the athletic kids in sports programs and kept them there. My point being? Don't forget they won a Euro Cup. |

Training does help, but some countries don't play football as their main sport so some aren't as good at it because of that. |

Yup, that's how Pele himself became known for being. He was basicly playing on the street with a ball since he was able to walk. No coach, no trainer.. until he started joining league teams.
What records, be specific, because the FIFA holds to many records for it's own good. I hope you don't mean the world rankings, because those change very periodically.. and mean *****, I've learned. Off the top of my head at this moment the world rankings rank Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Argentina respectivley. |
