Hmm, intresting, can't say I'm a huge fan of Goku to be honest, I find him kind of annoying in DBZ. |

Lool now this is what a call a real Goku fan! Yes, Goku is great, there's a reason why he was the main character throughout almost the whole series, right? He was fierce, he was always pushing himself over his limits, but he still managed to remain the same naive little kid he was back in DB, with a pure heart. And that's what made him such a great warrior. That youtube link is not working for me, I'll click it later O_o |

Yep, Goku gave Dragonball a spark that made it different from any other anime series I still remember the old days when me and my friends were watching DB.I first saw Piccolo Jr saga then saw it from the beggining. It's really nice after the last GT episode to remember the little kid from the woods who became the Universe's greatest warrior

I agree Goku is amazing. The way that he always had a pure heart since a kid to growing up to age 60 or so is amazing to me. Oh i also liked his confidence that there was always a way to win. |

I prefer Vegeta for his development and realistic strong/weak points, but I do like Goku. A lot of people complain he's a "gary-stu," but imo, the purpose of his character is to be a "role model" to the rest of the characters. A majority of heroes were originally antagonistic characters who changed because of him. Bulma(she was originally just using him), Yamcha, Krillin, Oolong, Tenshinhan, Chiaotzu, Piccolo, Vegeta, etc. I won't lie, it does annoy me when he wins most of the major fights and I prefer the "younger Goku," but he had a purpose and served it well, I guess. |

Goku was a little too predictable imo. His character was barely developed at all throughout the series, and the fact that he remains completely pure of heart throughout his entire life just seems kind of unrealistic to me (within the context of a completely unrealistic story). It's hard for anyone to relate to him because he is perfect. Also, it always annoys me that whenever I play a dbz video game with my friends, they always pick Goku, just cause he's the strongest. |

I have to agree with you there, it's rather unfitting for the protagonist of a story to be such a static character, it makes the character un-relatable and relate-ability is a key component that connects the reader to the story. Fantasy or not, it's extremely important. That's why I've always felt that Vegeta was the more interesting of the two. He struggles, his efforts don't always pay off, he learns from his mistakes, he doesn't always make the right choices, and he let's jealousy and anger get the best of him. Realistic emotions and problems. Edited by x_bura_x, Oct 25 2008, 02:38 AM.

Goku was annoying. He was over-rated. The light was always on him. He was always the hero at the end of the day, even when he died. (ex. when he sacrificed himself at the cell games). He tried to be funny, but more was dry-funny, where I had to force a laugh or two. He was also very dull, which I hated. How can a guy pull such great fighting moneuvers off when he can barely remember any general based knowledge? |
