Illegal in some countries.. I dont know about the US or Britain.. But it's also known as assisted death to some.. and on the other end of the argument it's murder, it's cruel, it's bad blablabla.. think about it, and get personal, get realistic about it. both sides of the argument figure that Euthanasia is good. If i'm in a wheelchair and my brain is a vegetable, what's the point of continuing and wasting other people's medicare and time? now multiply that by 10.. |

If I should ever find myself in the situation where someone must decide when to terminate my life, every fiber of my being tells me that I am the one responsible to make that decision. However, I think it is irresponsible to say that I am not going to ask the government’s permission, and do the job myself. Depending on the circumstances, it is highly likely that someone else who I care for will be negatively affected by my decision. The affect could range from social stigma for my remaining family, bankruptcy due to insurance laws, all the way to arrest of a family member, because it appears that they killed me. The legal system and the medical field are deeply entrenched in Judeo-Christian ethics. You have to wait until you have a disease to get a prescription. You cannot get a prescription for preventative measures. If you are in chronic pain, you can only be prescribed a limited amount of pain killers, whether it is enough to deal with your particular pain or not. It seems plain that sickness and death are still seen as divine punishment that we are legally obligated to endure; and, it is up to a higher authority to decide when we can check out. I have my own opinions about how these things should be dealt with; but, that is neither here nor there. Until medical law takes seriously that the health of the particular patient should trump unyielding law, we may all face making the choice of being responsible for our own health and deaths, and being responsible to our loved ones. |
