http://z8.invisionfree.com/Dragonball_Z_Fo...&#entry11773314 sprouting from this topic, i didnt want to go off topic so i made a new one.. and i didnt put it in the sports section because this is not something that only sports fans would be interested in discusing. Do you refer to your home team as WE. Would you refer to your team as we, even if you are not a die hard fan. Do you think a team deserves to be noticed as WE? |

I usually refer to the yankees as the yankees, but sometimes I might let it slip and accidentaly say we but most of the time I say the yankees |

a football team isn't just the 11 players on the pitch, theres the manager, coaches, scouts, physios, financial workers, owners, reserve team, youth teams and fans, if there were no fans there would be no team, who would buy the merchandise, tickets, which all generate money, so yeah, fans of a team can refer to themselves as "we" no fans = no team no team = no fans |

Fans aren't the team though. That's like me saying "We killed those Nazis in WW2" I didn't do anything, infact it was before I was born but I'm English and the English army killed them, so yeah, I can say we can't I? Football team or any sport team is the people involved in the sport, yes it counts the staff of the team, they do something. But it's not "We scored a goal", only one person scores it. Okay, it;s easier to say "we" and "us" though because you associate them with representing you or whatever. But you aren't really involved with the team unless you are a part of the team, being a fan doesn't make you a part of any team. If I'm a fan of a bookwritter, does that mean I am a part of his publishers or such? "Oh, we're going to come out with a new fiction next week, hope you enjoy it!" No. Also moved to sport, ffs Punxx, this is a sport issue. |

the allied forced would have won anyway, a sports team can't compete if it doesn't have any fans, as a sports team is there for entertainment
when you play in a footie team, if someone scores 4 goals, after the game you'll say "we" scored 4 goals, or "our" team scored 4.
you may be a fan of a bookwriter, but you don't neccessarily support the author do you? in a football game you go and watch your team play, turn up and shout your support |

Yes it can, what about all those people who play for fun and not money, you can still play without fans.
Everyone I know says "Soandso scored yesterday! Did you see it!?"
But what if I do support them? Buying their books, signing up to fansites and sending fan mail (I do none of this, it's just an example) then I am supporting them. Doesn't mean I can claim credit for a best selling, as a football/sport fan can't claim credit for winning a title. "We won the cup!" No, you didn't even get to touch the cup. If you feel so strong that you are a part of a club, try going into a stadium and asking to get in for free, after all, it's your club. They will say you have to pay, you don't pay for something that's already yours right? :3 |

Thats not how he meant it. When you watch sport you're there while they are playing. You wouldnt sit next to an author while hes writing the novel saying "Nice you just hit 200 pages, keep it going you're doing great" |

Well you could but I don't think anyone has gotten that close to an author. Someone watching a sport on TV isn't actually there, so you know. If you go and watch it at a stadium, sure you are there and everything, but you paid to watch them, you keep paying to watch them, you still don't own part of the club. Okay, it makes it easier to say "we won" but still, doesn't make it correct because they might be the team you support but you don't own any part of the club, you're just a fan. |

as i've said before, the fans job is to support and fund the club, they get money by charging the fans at the gates, and flogging merchandise
yes but were not talking about the local sunday footie team down the park, albeit the point remains valid, even in local football the players want to hear the fans cheering, they want to hear their name being cheered out, its one of the perks
i'm not saying that football fans don't say that, but they lso refer to the team as we example yesterday middlesbourough beat man city 8-1, is the fan going to say every individual player who scored, you'll say middlesbourough scored 8 goals or "we" scored 8 goals.
exactly, everything in football, every other sport, is all for the fans
every single pro football team is a product, which is aimed at the fans, take away the fans, you have no team. |

Take away the fans, you still have a football team, now take away the staff and you don't have a football team, or take away the players. Sure it's nice to have fans but they don't make the team play, they can play without fans. Especilly since some fans can come out with racist remarks to players on the team they support, which hurts team moral. So yeah, fans aren't needed to make the team play, the money is needed sure, because they have players to pay and staff to pay, but they don't pay the fans for showing up. "Thanks for showing up to the match today Ben, here's £20 for your time and support!" lmao |

so if there no fans there would still be proffesional football leagues, no of course there wouldn't be!
do you know how rare that is?!? it's a tiny percentage that do that, that'd be like saying that a whole country is racist if one person is racist
i've said this so many times, the fans job is to support and fund the club, or even volunteer to be a stewardess or steward, A fan should be allowed to use the term we when referring to a sports team, without fans there will be no footbll on tv, or any other sports teams, most athletes would admit, the fans are a "part" of the team, it's the fans who pur money into the club, which keeps the teams going, it's the fans who watch the games, pay the prices at the gates, even though i rarely use the term, a fan can use the term as "we" simply because they feel involved, other than the manager or players who can say they can't, |

They aren't involved though, that's like saying I donated to a charity so I am now involved with them. I bought a sandwhich from Asda so I am now a part of Asda and can say "We made a profit this month." Or "We got more donators than Oxfam!" You know, you're paying for a service, not a part of the club. |

We is what is used for the team. whether your are part of them or not, whether you buy tickets to go watch them or not, the team represents you. example, Liverpool FC. Liverpool soccer team represents Liverpool on the european scene. When Liverpool wins the UEFA or the ECC, Liverpool fans rejoice. their religion is soccer, Liverpool represents them, We are the champions. you can buy a movie.. it's just a good, you enjoy the m,ovie, you dont care about the authors or the dirctors, it's not your book that book doesn't represent you in any way. A boxer from my neighbourhood may win the IBF haeavyweight title. I wouldn't care, he the individual won representing himself, not his city, or country, individual sportsmen are there to win for themselves. Teams carry the city's name, the Montreal Canadiens, The New York Yankees. They represent you. every sports fan knows this, and no other fan would be dumb enough to refer to themselves as we with what they follow. imho the only true fans are sports.. you can't be a true anime fan, c'mon thats just crazy. |
