The news and the media, in general when reporting anything. By reporting, I'm more targeting the TV news programs, as newspapers you can skip the stories you don't want to read and more can generally be fit into it. What I don't like about news programs is the fact that they often fill parts of it with reports that aren't really of any intrest, yet they seem to think they are news worthy. Such as this story, why do I need to hear about that? The guy is a nobody for a crime that has been commited by more people. He's only in the news because he is related to Shannon Matthews who went missing a while back, found now though, know that thanks to the amount of time they wasted reporting it day by day. Then still wanting to move with it. The case for Diana once again in the news, waste of time most of the time they don't say anything that is really important, just oh it's costing so much and so and so gave evidance, wow. Stick it on the website, don't broadcast it. I would have much rather seen this on the news than some garbage about Shannons stepfather possibly jerking off to underaged kids. How about your views on broadcasted news? |

To be honest I have always had a problem with the broadcast media. Here in Texas, when it's a slow news day, it's REALLY a slow news day. Also, the stations political views tend to sway in one direction or the other. You have stations that will report more on either democratic or republican issues. |

Penn Jillette once said that if the entertainment industry ran a supermarket, the only beverage they'd sell would be Coca-cola. His point is that the industry works on the idea of finding a small sample of things with big appeal, and pushing only those select things. Likewise, I would say that the news media is like the entertainment industry in that there's only so much time and advertising space to show what's going on. So news programs, like FM radio stations or blockbuster theatres, only stick to things that they think will keep the most people locked in and listening. If you're still interested in the news, I'd recommend getting your news from more than one source. Read different articles on the same story and see how different their takes are. |

Well the news industry only really plays on what small minded people like. Since the small minded are the majority. I doubt that anybody in the forum has say...Maybe 20 genuinly intellectual friends. I'd even go as far as saying a few aren't intellectual themselves *cough noobs cough* The point I'm making is that the people who watch the news for the 2-bit stories such as the ones posted, are generally people who just want to gossip. I doubt there's anybody who actually gives a crap. The news will always go for the stupid stories such as "Rakoon goes motor-boating" or "Koala Bear eat's cheese, then throws it at somebody, quickly eaten" sort of stories that are only placed to make people lul. And fail |

This isn't specifically directed at any of you, but there is no reason to complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself. If you don't like the way tv news broadcasts are formatted, don't watch them. |

I don't know where you guys come off, and i can't comment because I obviously haven't watched your local news. My local news station is really good actually. If there's something the public should be aware of they say it. If they have time for a segment of usless cute animal pictures, they'll show them. they'll show the weather, they'll top it off with sports. Unless there is breaking news they won't concentrate their attention on one story. People should listen to the news, any news source. It doesn't mean that if you watch the news you'll know the world around you, as we know not every source is purley true. Although we'll get an idea of how our world is going. AND THE LINE ENDS HERE |

I love the news. I read the paper every day and watch the news every day. The news in Australia is really good because there is alot about other countries and it keeps me up tp date. Ive heard from a cousin that lives in America that 98% of the news is directed purely at America. Is that true? Im thinking it is. I watched this show where they had a map of Australia and they were asking what Country they thought it was. SOUTH KOREA??? And when my g/f was in America some girls asked if we had dogs in Australia!?!?!?and rap music!?!?!?!? The news is a gateway to other cultures. I personally love it. |
