Pit Bulls

Again and again, pit bulls, and other breeds, are demonized due to the lack of responsibility of pet owners. Incidents range from nuisance calls because of barking dogs, to front-page news about scum… I mean “celebrities” who are involved in the illegal “sport” of dog fighting. As per usual, the legislative answer is to control, ban or outlaw the instrument of human ignorance rather than address the real issue… lack of responsibility on the part of the pet owner, or pseudo-enthusiast.

Every time a human commits to cohabitate with a non-human animal, there will be concessions that will need to be made. All too often, the only consideration is the whim, fad or impulse of the human…more often than not a juvenile. But compromises must be made in any pet-human relationship. If the pet is a fish, the owner must think like a fish, and insure the proper type of water and food. Owning a snake, I insist that anyone who handles him wash his or her hands to protect against the possibility of salmonella.

Dogs have very complex needs. In some ways, they are tailor made to be companions for humans. Dogs are social animals. They follow a natural stratification based on size and leadership ability. Dogs seek approval and affection.

What many people do not realize is that dogs MUST have a job. They evolved by being part of a team. As team players, each dog must have a well-defined purpose within the pack. A human dog owner is a member of its dog’s pack. If the owner does not train the dog to do its task, the dog is forced to define his or her role independently.

Dogs have complex emotions. A dog CANNOT thrive when spending many hours alone. This includes being chained up in the back yard. A lonely dog is a neurotic dog; and, behavioral problems are guaranteed.

Pit bulls make excellent pets for households with children. A healthy pit bull is friendly, gentle and sweet natured. They also have physiological and psychological characteristics that were bred into them to perform specific tasks. They have worked as animal control officers, keeping in check the rodent population on farms; and, as the name implies, they have been used to control bulls during handling. That is why pit bulls have strong jaw muscles (pit jaws do NOT lock); and, the ability to perform a task to completion, in the presence of pain. It is these characteristics that also make a pit bull a hazard if mistreated.

ANY breed of dog can become dangerous if treated inhumanely. There is nothing specific to the breed that makes them any more prone to violence that any other breed of dog. The fault lies squarely on the shoulders of owners who specifically seek out these dogs for various nefarious reasons.

There is a special place for non-human animals in the heart of Satanism. The reason is that they are natural magicians. As such, they deserve our respect. Part of respecting them is becoming educated on the needs of any animal before making the decision to cohabite with them. It is bad enough that many human animals are trained improperly… it is a crime when other animals are forced to stoop to our level.

We're discussing Pit Bulls, and human ignorance. What do you think about Pit Bulls? Do you think they are dangerous by nature, or is it all the master's fault? Perhaps a little bit of both?

Its all the owners fault.

Any breed can be tamed, for some its just a little harder. Its these ignorant people that take a dog into their home and treat them improperly. I do watch Ceaser Milan and he is 100% right. He starts off with Excercise which a dog needs. A walk, first to show who the dominant dog is in the pack and then to tire him out if you plan on leaving the dog alone. Dogs become destructive when theyre bored hence a long walk in the morning and a walk at night. Walks are the best part of a dogs day and people abuse their dogs by avoiding this fact.

People needs to train their dogs and accept the responsibility they brought into their house.

Dogs only attack because the human is an nitwitt. The dog is just doing what it thinks is ok. We should step into the alpha dog position and stop that.

I have mixed feelings about Pitbulls because there have been a number of incidents where socialized ones have attacked their owners for no reason. In fact, there was one owner, who absolutely adored her Pitbull until one day it suddenly attacked her. She was left with a wounded jaw that needed many stitches to heal. Unfortunately, the dog had to be placed to sleep. This story was on animal planet, but I will search for the article.

They are considered the most dangerous bread for a reason. They were bred for fighting, and it is their natural instinct to fight. Are all Pitbulls bad? No, however, I refuse to have one near love-ones because of the unpredictacle temperment they have.

As a personal account to defend my claim that Pitbulls can be dangerous regardless of their owner, a few years ago I was walking my dog Paulie on the sidewalk. Then I turned my head towards this creature running at me. I knew it was a Pitbull, and I froze in fear.

Paulie instinctively started to fight the Pitbull that had lunged in my direction. Since Paulie was older, he was able to hold his own against a one-year old Pitbull. I was worried that he might get hurt because Paulie is a beagle, they are small in comparison to Pitbulls, and they are bred for hunting not fighting. Once the owner called for his dog, the Pitbull left us alone.

This happened when I was ten or eleven. Conversly, I remember the incident. If it was not for Paulie, I think I may have been another Pitbull victim.

I dislike people, who hurt them, but I am not a fan of them being kept as pets.

Pit Bulls were not bred for fighting, not at all in fact, originally. They were bred for chasing away, and most of the time killing, at all costs, vermin who would have ruined crops. Sometimes they were also used to protect farmers from bull attacks, which is another reason for their extremely powerful jaws and relentless struggle to finish the job (whether that be killing a bull or attacking a human), even through extreme pain.

These dogs are the hounds of hell. Literally. There are so many stories of them attacking there owners AND other people for no cause. Ive seen many shows on Tv about dangerous animals and 90% of the time theres always a story about 2-3 Pitbulls attacking random people on the street, most of the time severely wounding and even killing people.

The owners clearly arent the dominant dog.

In the wild a dog would never attack the alpha dog.

Let me make something clear; Pit Bulls are not vicious, evil, or violent by nature. The reason they have such a bad rap is not only because they are much more often abused than other dogs for dog-fighting purposes, but also because of their awesome power. They’re relentlessness. You will always hear the stories of pit bulls killing people, because if they are trained to do so, they will kill you. If you smack an attacking German Shepard in the head with a baseball bat, chances are he’ll stop attacking. If you smack a pit bull, he will just bite harder.

You realize you basically agreed with me.

They are vicious by nature. Most Pit bulls that attack are somebodies pets and not all cases are because of abused owners. IMO and experience pit bulls are vicious by nature. Im sorry if you dont agree with me but thats my opinion on the matter.

Well I think that "innocent" girl that walked her doggie had hers on a leash and the other person didn't Which would actually still be the owners fault. Say you had a pet python you wouldn't put it outside and leave it unattended. Or any other pet for that matter.

On a leash or not if it wasn't vicious by nature it wouldn't have attacked. ive wondered past stray dogs many times and had no problems at all.

Why allow someone to have something vicious in the first place? Why did I have to almost suffer an attack because of neglegence of an owner? If I had endured a serious injury, then that dog would not be alive today. I've known many dogs to be released from their leashes, and they do not attack like this one did.
