High-Def War Officially Over!

That's right. Most of you are probably already aware of this, but recently Toshiba (practically the HD-DVD owner) have completely dropped their own High-Def format, HD-DVD. Which means Blu-Ray is officially the format set to eventually replace DVD in the future.

This was repeated several times on the radio today at work today and each time it just made me smile. All I could picture was the President of Sony twiddling his thumbs with pure glee.

Not only is this a HUGE impact on the home entertainment industry, but also on the current Next-Gen consoles war. Now I don't think for one minute that it will have any effect on the X-Box 360. Consumers will still buy the console whether they can get a HD-DVD add-on or not. And how many 360 gamers actually care about that drive? But one thing is sure, this will definitely have a MASSIVE effect on the sales of PlayStation 3. And by 'effect' I mean 'boost'.

Another thing though is that I definitely feel feel incredibly sorry for all the people out there who have paid like £500 for a stand-alone HD-DVD player only to find that's it's now pretty much worthless. That definitely sucks to no end, and I can't even imagine what such people must be feeling. I myself, was hoping to buy a stand-alone player at some point and now that's gone through the window.

YES!! I was hoping the blue ray would win, this way when I got a PS3 , the blue ray could be important to buy movies. Im glad Blure Ray won, because now it can help out the PS3

That's true. But I really find all of the people who bought either a Blu-ray or a HD-DVD immediately when they came out a bit unclever and oblivious. Everybody knew only one of these high-definition devices could stay in the end, so that automatically makes the waiting the perspicacious thing to do.

On a brighter note: YAY, I'm happy blu-ray won, like Yankees said, that will be one more reason to invest in buying a PS3. :w00t:

PS3 is the only reason Blu Ray won.

PS3 is the only reason Blu Ray won.

I'm sure there are other reasons behind it other than it being in the PS3, though it would have sucked for PS3 owners if HD-DVD won.

Eitherway, it's one of those things, one wins the other doesn't, happend with VHS all those years ago. Sucks for the people who bought a HD-DVD player, well I'm not one of those.

I don't even have a HD TV.

Yeah, but the PS3 having a Blu Ray drive definetly gave it the edge,

Im not really bothered though, I dont own a player for either of those, nor do i plan to anyways.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I've never seen anything in High Def TBH. Useless.

To be honest, you're totally right there. Although the problem is that quite a few people (myself included) thought the format war would go on for a whole lot longer (a year at least), and just couldn't wait.
