In the scene where Goku reaches the SSj state for the first time, do you prefer the FUNimation dub or the original Japanese version? English Dub version Japanese version Please don't just say "The Japanese version, because it's the original" or "The English version because it's in English", post why you think it's better. It's a tough call for me. I remember when I first saw the transformation on Toonami. When Goku says "I won't let you get away with this!", you've never heard Sean Schemmel sound so *****ed off. And I like the music, it sounds awesome and a little sad. But I hate Freeza's "Pop goes the weasel" line. The Japanese version's great too. I love how it's dead silent after Kuririn dies, as though it gives you time to absorb the shock of what just happened. And him screaming "GOKU!" before blowing up was much more effective. There's also this great subtlety trick where his voice distorts after saying "How dare you..." The thing is, it uses stock music that's been heard in the series before. It has a more dreadful and ominous tone than the Funimation version. But what I like least of all is when Goku opens his mouth there's a two second delay, and when he screams, it's a much deeper version of Masako Nozawa's voice. Plus the anti-climactic "ARRRAAGGH!" I think it's one of the few times where FUNimation equals the original. Also, here is a link that shows many of the "Goku becoming a SSj" screams. Which do you think is best? Personally, I think the Mexican version hit it spot on. And his screaming voice sounds like someone's (and English voice) voice I heard before on Dragonball (I'm thinking Broli, or Turles?), or possibly some other anime. Can anyone help me identify who it is? Thanks, and Enjoy! This topic has been taken from Daizenshuu EX. |

Personally. I prefer the English. I found it overall a better setup. Goku's voice in the Japanese is too high-pitched for the scream he made. Which was substantially lower-toned. The "pop goes the weasal" line irritated me compared to the japanese "Shall I do the little boy next?" but that annoyed me too. Cause it made Freiza more like Michael Jackson than ever. Plus I remember watching Goku going SSJ on Toonami when I was ike 3 or 4. So to me that's how I recall it. |

Well, I personally prefer the spanish dub, but if I had to pick between both of them I'd pick English. I guess it's because I like to know what the characters are saying rather than reading subtitles. |

Please, based on all things shown (music, dialog, emotion, voice acting), and not just liking one because it's in a language you speak (I liked the Mexican dub in this case. I don't speak Spanish...not that there was Spanish to hear, but still), which did you find better? |

Well the one thing I liked about the Japanese version was when Gohan went SSJ2. The music seemed to match the occasion than the English dub in my opinion. Because like in the English Dub it's some rock song, making it seem like an Alexisonfire video with Gohan screaming and stuff. But in Japanese some of the voices sound weird, like Goku's. Some of the villain's voices sound a bit more menacing though. Like Recoome actually seems to look like he can pose a threat instead of looking like some dumb retard on the dub. I also liked Piccolo's voice in Japanese, it seemed to have some sort of thing to it which made him seem like Piccolo. Though the Piccolo in the dub was pretty cool, I think I prefer the one in the Japanese version of the show. But still I prefer the English one, I'm able to understand it and it's what I grew up with when I watched DBZ as a little kid. It's what I'm used to. |

I still prefer the Spanish and English dub regardless. The Spanish dub has the same music and better dialog in my opinion. It is also in a language I know which is a double bonus. The emotion in it is dramatic. I saw the Spanish dub first so I prefer it the most. However, this is between English and Japanese. Lol the music in the English dub is bad I must admit. Like I said in other topics. The voices in the Japanese dub irritate me because some are very high pitched. A few males, like Goku, sound feminine. At least in the English version the voices seem to fit the character/persona. Some of the dialog in the English version suits a more modern generation I guess. |

Well I have to be sincerre I never was really into the japanese voices, I just can't get used to how they sound, I don't really like it. Same way when it was the ocean dub, I don't like their voices at all for the ocean dub. I have always like the funimation's voice though, so well I think my choice is clear on this one. |

FOr me, it would definately have to be the English dub. Yes, the music was irritating, however, I liked the dialogue and the way the characters voices sounded. They fit them all perfectly. I agree with everyone here the the Japanese voice actors didn't do a very good job personifying their characters, |

I don't think the Japanese voices sound bad. I just don't like the 2 second pause before Goku screams. And that's not just a Youtube thing. |
