Well in recent news there was this white comedian on stage who used the word nigga which got him in trouble. He had been a cast member of a famous show called Seinfeld. He was interrupted during his act because he used the word "nigga." After he used the word, he got booed and cursed off stage.

His complaint was that black comedians use the word all the time and they get laughter out of it. However, "nigga" tends to be a word that is used frequently by black rappers, comedians, etc. Whereas in the old days the word "nigga" originating from "nigger" was considered an awful thing to call someone.

So the debate is...should this word be tolerated by anyone and/or is there a big double standard with racism today?

Get facts right chichi.
He used the word "nigger" after he was heckled, and insulted them men in a very rascist way.

His exact words : " 30 years ago we would have you people hanging with a fork up your ***** !! Nigger !! Look at the niggers !!"

Also, he did not get booed of stage, the audience members left out of shock and disgust.

She was using that as an example.. a bad example, but one nonetheless. lol

What the debate should be about is whether the word nigger is really that offensive, when black comedians say it themseves, as well as using words such as "cracker" or "chink".

IMO I don't really care.

Yeah i understand.

In any case i would like to see other peoples responses before i post, and i do think this is a good topic.

The difference between Ni**er and Nigga and how they are perceived is an interesting debate.

There is a selient rule, you can make fun of a group of people if you're in that group. Or use any kind of nasty words or things like that against your own people. It may not be fair but...

I personally didn't like the word in the first place.
Though if somebody came up to me and called me "whitey" in a racist way I wouldn't be pleased

Nigger is a word that became a heavy offense in the 1920's or 30's. White people considered themselves better, more valuable.

Well, this attitude may be weakened today, but it still exists and the word nigger never lost it's insulting tone. I think it became even more intense when the years passed by.

What I want to say is that there is a huge difference between calling somebody a faggot, moron , idiot or a nigger. The first three insults are aiming at individuals, they insult their SPECIFIC behaviour.

The word nigger is aiming at the whole black population on this planet, it is discriminating against all of them.

I personnaly find people using this word disgusting, they should not be allowed to say something like that in public.

Racism is present today and I don't see that changing in the future. Spreading those insulting and racist words or phrases should be forbidden.

But if you say it that way. Then why do people despise others that call them names like "Nigger" and then call one of their friends the very same thing.

I find Rap is like this. The whole genre hates those who insult others and they counter by doing the same thing to eachother

You have to see the difference! One the one hand, this word has a different meaning to the black people when they say it themselves.

It is some kind of humor, even if I can't understand that. I mean, here in Germany, I do not say "Hey, my old Nazi friend!" to make fun of somebody, because that would be one of the worst things you could say here.

On the other hand, and this refers to rap, some of their songs are aiming at a specific coolness, which is mainly reached by using rhymes and verses containing specific words which might sound cool. "Nigga" could be one of those words. I don't think you have to take that too seriously.

(PS: Tell me if my english sucks and I am going to work on it. )

I do have my facts straight. I know he used the word "nigger," but that is why I am saying "nigga" because it means the same thing to me. That was how I was going to get my opinion started.

I just finished watching the video and some of them did boo him. The point of the debate is whether or not there is a double standard. That was used as an example. What you said is exactly what I'm talking about. There are black comedians who talk about the KKK and use the word nigga, and they do not have fans leaving. I bet you if it was a black comedian up there, who said the same thing, people would have started laughing.

They also make fun of white people too, and white fans do not leave. So I DO have my facts straight, I think you need to reread before you assault.

My English class spoke about this. Most of my classmates are african american. They told me that if it was a black comedian, most people would have started laughing.

Also they tried explaining to me what the difference between the word "nigger" and "nigga" was because I didn't understand. They said "nigga" is like brother or bro and "nigger" is the offensive term. I really don't see the difference. In my opinion, I don't think it should be a word that is used by anyone.

I also believe there is a double standard. When I watch black comedians, they call white people "crackers" or "rednecks." White people are suppossed to take those comments and turn the other cheek. However, if something negative is said about the black community, by a white person, they automatically presume it's racism.

I thought it would have been you who brought this up XD

Right here's what i think:

When black people call each other nigga, i think they don't find it offensive because its from another black person. But when a white person says it, they find it offensive because they are white. *shrugs* i dunno just a thought :/

In my opinion, I say the word shouldn't be used at all. It's like what my history teacher says, that word was used for a bad meaning long ago, and saying it now, it is just giving strength to why the word was used many years ago. I think that no one at all should say it.

No offense, but there has been many colored comedians making fun of white people as well, so that means they are all racists huh, it does work both ways.

I said this before, but I'll post it here too. I don't believe he was being a racist. I believe he was mad at the guy for interrupting his show and wanted to say something that he knew would offend the man. Revenge.
