Pope condemns violent games
His holiness says violent and sexually explicit media, including games, are "repulsive" and "a perversion," particularly when aimed at minors.

Pope Benedict XVI, the current head and spiritual leader of the Catholic Church, voiced his opinion on games today from the Vatican, saying that violent or sexually explicit games are a "perversion" and "repulsive."

As part of the annual papal message for World Communications Day, the theme of which was "Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education," the pope talked about the media's effect on children, paying particular attention to games and films.

"Any trend to produce programs and products--including animated films and video games--which in the name of entertainment exalt violence and portray antisocial behavior or the trivialization of human sexuality is a perversion, all the more repulsive when these programs are directed at children and adolescents,'' the pope said.
.
Pointing toward the growing influence the media has on youth, he said the media can support a family's educating of children provided it "promotes fundamental human dignity, the true value of marriage and family life, and the positive achievements and goals of humanity." He called upon the leaders of the industry "to safeguard the common good, to uphold the truth, to protect individual human dignity, and promote respect for the needs of the family."

Yes, this means that he also hates DBZ because of its violent standards. What's your opinion on this?

I have the same responce that I have for anyone or anything that badmouths things that they claim are harmful to children:

Parents need to talk to their children about these things. Don't just take someone's stance on something without looking into it themslves and making their own decision. Play a bigger role in the raising of your kids. Know what they're into and talk to them.

Besides, who is buying kids violent games? Adults. So if you don't want your kids to play violent games, don't buy it for them.

And as for the Pope, he needs to worry less about what games the children are playing with and more about what children the priests are playing with.

I say "What a stupid old fart". Because thats what this boils down to....

Put him in our shoes.....make him 400 years younger, and make him be raised surrounded by films and computer games.....lets see how he feels then....

Foolish Old Timer.

Video Games are not harmfull to children that understand that what they play is FAKE when I was 6 my mum sat me down and explained to me that games are all fake and what I was playing should not be taken seriously she also answerd any questions I had on the matter. By telling me this she avoided any harm that games ma or may not influenced me into doing.I think that if parents do this to their kids and make sure that they understand all of that then games will no longer be questioned.

And what does the pope know?He was in hitlers youth after all.
Maybe if he finds the 900 year old woman of his dreams he will calm down abit

You should change the title to "Pope Condemns Violent VIdeogames"

I don't agree with this, but I also don't see anything wrong with it. And all those who say the Pope is a "stupid old fart" (even though I agree with that) just because he has this opinion on violent games is an idiot.

Well I happen to think the Pope is a "stupid old fart" for more than his expressed views on violent games.

If games are violent then why do parents let them play the games? I mean if they are violent i dont think some parents would let them play them. And movies are FAKE anyways.

Needless to say its the parent's responiblity to explain that video games are fake. Like a fiction novel, entertaining but not real.

Also it falls on them as to WHAT video games to buy, Don't by your 8 year old a rated M game, that's what they're there for.
