They just called him Piccolo because it was easy to remember probably lol. Either that or they were thinking about Pickle at the time and thought he looked just like one lmao. They tried to make his name sound cooler so they added a few Os here and there, but we all know the true secret. XD

Its a bit dodgy actually in the original episodes, especially in the Saiyan Saga when Goku's body was taken by Kami after dying when fighting Raditz. Picollo with a wry smile on his face looks up to the sky and says: "This is God's doing. Yeah this is deffinately his work". I knew he meant Kami because i saw the american dubs first.... but still, LOL XD
