A lot of people say they can't because of the reference to it Frieza made when he was fighting with Goku and the planet was about to explode. But if you think about it, Frieza just may have been bluffing or he didn't know. Prior to Goku coming to Namek he had never been off planet Earth, so he wouldn't know if he could or not, so he bought into it. But just look at the evidence to prove that they can breathe in space, it's so overwhelming. Evidence #1 -Broly and Paragus in Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, they were both in space breathing,flying and creating energy attacks. Broly was destroying meteors and was going nuts. Evidence #2 -In Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly was punched by Goku just as the planet was colliding with the comet. We know there wasn't anymore spaceships on that planet, yet in Broly: Second Coming he lands on Eartyh in a Spaceship. There is only one thing that could have happened, he flew off the exploding planet onto another one found him a spaceship and landed on Earth. Evidence #3 -Bardock: The Father OF Goku, towards the end Bardock races towards Frieza space ship, this is clearly space, you see him talking,fighting,flying,breathing in space, and creating energy waves. This is right before Frieza blew up Planet Vegeta, so clearly you see him breathing in space. Evidence #4 -Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, right before Planet Vegeta explodes yo can see that broly lifted and saved his father from the exploding planet and into outter space. Some of you might say that he created an energy shield, but he still would have to breathe, which he was doing, and in outter space. Now some of you might say that all this wasn't canon but there was a flashback in the Frieza saga of Frieza destroy Planet Vegeta and you could clearly see Bardock breathing in space. I know there is more evidence of this, I hear Vegeta and Nappa did it also. But what do you guys think, also is there anymore evidence?

Posts: 26 Group: Member Member #1,966 Joined: December 6, 2006	I dunno....all of those sources aren't part of the manga, but I hate that argument- it's so lame. I think the scene with Bardock is supposed to be really high in the air rather than actually in space. Broly is so powerful he came back from the dead when he was a baby so maybe he can create some kind of energy field to keep him alive in space. Like the energy field Vegetto uses when he gets eaten by Buu. Also, Frieza, Vegeta, all the Nameks and King Kai were pretty convinced that Goku could not have survived in space. And when they asked Shenron to bring Goku back to life and Shenron revealed he was still alive somehow, I think Shenron might have pointed out that Saiyans can survive in space if they could. Which brings up another point, why does Vegeta continue to use a spaceship to travel? And when Goku was flying to Namek he had to go outside to fix the ship and he wore a spacesuit.... I think that last one is pretty conclusive. Maybe Vegeta wants the speed of a spaceship to get to places but if Goku could breathe in space then why would he wear the spacesuit to fix his ship?

Title Pending Posts: 362 Group: Member Member #1,665 Joined: August 27, 2006	You can't breathe in space because there is no air to breathe in a vacuum. However, Saiya-jins can create an artificial atmosphere barrier around themselves like Vegito did when he was absorbed by Buu.

You see that's just the thing, Frieza can breathe in space but yet he still uses a spaceship. That's why I don't think the spaceship can be used as an argument because so many people who can breathe in space use spaceships.

Title Pending Posts: 362 Group: Member Member #1,665 Joined: August 27, 2006	Frieza uses a spaceship because it would take him many years to travel from one portion of the universe to the other, plus the amount of ki that would take is massive. Galaxies are thousands to millions of light years large, and the distance between galaxies is infinitely larger. I know that many DBZ characters could travel faster than the speed of light, but not by that much.

You can't deny actual physical evidence, what I mean is that they show Saiyans breathing in space fine but they don't show Saiyans in space gasping for air because they can't breathe. And I already said in a flashback in the Frieza saga it shows Bardock breathing in space when Frieza blows up the planet....= canon.

I always thought that they were in the very high atmoshere special since that were talking with each other. And even if they were in outer space-space they kinda did what Superman does and use their very large lung capacity and take a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep breath.

Do you really think that Frieza convinced them that they couldn't breathe in space well enough for them to believe that they all had to use space pods? Every thing you have brought up is either from a movie or is just a filler. Fact: Saiyans use spacepods in outer space so they won't die. Filler: Frieza talking to Goku for 2 hours and having Bardock flashbacks.

Bardock was probably still in Planet Vegeta's atmosphere when he was in space. Remember Superman Returns movie when the space shuttle is slightly out of the earth's atmosphere and you somewhat see it in space? Well Lois lane could still breathe and so I believe that there was still oxygen around for Bardock and the other henchmen to breathe.

Also Bardock couldn't have been in space if he talked. There is no sound in space due to no medium so if he was talking and sound was coming out then there is a medium (meaning not in space) unless it was like Star Wars where they did it to make it look cooler. Also, it was a flashback so it could have been slightly distorted and exaggerated. They were probably really high in the atmosphere like everyone else is saying.

But it could have been a bluff, and I'm only saying this about Goku. Frieza most likely said this because he wanted Goku to believe that he wouldn't survive because they were fighting. And what was that no sound in space? There have been many anime/manga or even movies where you can talk in space. You can't apply real life physics to a Japanese anime, because you don't see men with gold hair flying around throwing energy balls at huge globs of bubble gum. So if that isn't humnaly possible and it's in the show then so can talking in space.

Frieza probably is like part fish only different or something where it absorbs something. I'm not an expert on microorganisms breathing in space in real life so I can't really give you a great answer on this.

Google Chrome and Firefox	I agree with Kaioken. They could have that they looked like they were in space, but they were high in the atmosphere. Since Vegeta is a different planet from Earth, we can assume that the atmosphere is also different. There is no way that all those races could have survived if there was no oxygen.
