Now many of you are going to say OMG he was Italian right away.. It has not been proven. So don't jump into conclusions. However, gathering from the facts that we know about Christopher Columbus. Where do you think he originated from?

The two enthnic backgrounds that are in debate are Spaniard and Italian. Many think he was Italian and others think he was Spaniard, but there is no proof to prove that he was Italian.

You're right in a way, but people who look at history and debate about lean towards Italian. However, I lean towards Spaniard because there has been some valuable points made. I'm not 100% certain about either, I need proof.

i think spaniard was the logical thing because didn't he go over there to get gold or something?

my history teacher or someone used to say that and then he was italian or something.

Well the Spanish gave him the money to go across the ocean. So even if he wasn't Italian well the Spaniards certainly deserve the credit for allowing him to go across.

He was not portuguese, that's for sure. We debated that topic in one history class last year. There is no proof that he was Italian but my teacher did bring us some documents of his time that point him as Italian, and some other interesting stuff. I can't remember what they were about, but I know they had a lot of meaning, which made my teacher believe Christopher was really Italian.

He definatly wasn't portuguese thats for sure.

If he was still around we should have asked:

Which are you? Paiella or Pizza? XD

But you remember this was when the Atlantic ocean was much smaller back then. The Atlantic gets bigger(Between the UK and US) by 5cm each year so if you find out the date(which I suppose will be pretty easy) then you can work out the distance between them both and then you could reference that with all the data already found. And also you would have to fnd how much north or south America has drifted since then.So using ALL that Data You could figure what place would be easiest(I figure England or Spain) to set sail from. And you would find out where he was from....But I suppose that wouldn't help out where he originated from....

Many say he was Spaniard because King Ferdinand of Spain of the time owned parts of Italy. So he could have been Spaniard. Also, Spain was the country to give him the money, to go across and discover. So why shouldn't he be credited as a Spaniard?
