Are video games now and days too violent for kids? Many politicians tend to think so. So explain if games are too violent now and days or if they are not too violent, they are just video games. If so, what should they do about the violent games and what shouldn't they do? |

Video games are not too violent. I have been playing violent video games since I was in elementary school, and I have never attempted to do anything violent on anyone. In fact, there are other things more violent than video games. DBZ, for example, is a very violent anime/manga. Certain T.V. shows, such as Supernatural, are much more violent that most video games out there. Movies, such as Dawn of the dead and 28 Days later, take violence to a whole new level that you almost never see in any video games. Nobody should do anything to restrict violence in video games, since ratings show which age group certain video games should only be played by. Besides, if violent video games were to be taken out of the market just because they are too violent, that that means that certain T.V. shows, books, manga, anime, movies, and art should be taken out as well because many of them are just as violent, if not more violent that violent video games. People always assume that kids will do violent things when they are exposed to violent video games. That isn't really true. If the kid has been properly taught morals, he or she most likely will not commit acts of violence just because he or she played a violent video game. |

Vedio games aren't too violent, maybe sometimes exessively graphic but that's not anything to complain about because like Epsilonite said, it's the same with everything. Essecailly with Movies and T.V. Now of course if i had a young child i would go to a R-rated movie with them, heck if they were REALLY young I'd stay away from PG-13. This stadard goes for video games too, I wouldn't buy my kid a game that's too bloody or sexual or distrubing until I thought they were mature enough. |

To most people on this forum I am classed as a kid I'm 13 and have been playing Video Games since about the age of 2.I've never even thought once about copying anything violent on a game.I've I muck up I make a joke about it and move on.Like those before me in this topic have said Vdeo games are not violent. Hell I've gone on several killing sprees on GTA plenty of times.Movies I've seen are worse today I watched Underworld Eveolution or whatever it's called.I was surprised at the amount of blood and gore.Plus there was like a 10 minute sex scene.I've never seen that in a game.I doubt anybody here has either... |

None of the game are too violent....we havn't reach graphical capabilite where we get affected by a scene of gore. Some games are definetly not for kids, not for violence but for more mature content. (sex ,drugs etc.) Whatever, i don't see any problem with them whatsoever, just that the parents check out what their kids are playing or at least what games they are buying. |

Let's put it this way. Some video games are violant, such as GTA. But, if kids are playing these games, with the intention of compleating it or just messing around on it, they aren't hurting anyone, the violance is all on the screen, it isn't really. The graphics don't even make it seem really, since you can tell they are drawn. Also, how many gamers do you see in the news for commting a violant crime? Usually none, because they are probably to busy playing with vertual violance, mabey some people will commit violant crime and play a violant game, but mabey a small minority who would probably have done so even if they never played the game. A game is a game, so long as a person can tell the diffrence between a game and reality, there is no problem. Giving GTA to a 10 year old might make them want to pretend to play the game in real life with there friends, but what guns do they use? Water pistols or there hands, if they get hold of a baseball bat, then there might be some problems. But if violent games are causing violent crimes, then mabey violent TV programs, films, comics, music E.T.C is doing the same. Most games are rated to protect younger children anyway, I'm sure if a perant feels that the game won't effect there child, they will buy it for them, I've played 18's and 15's for ages, hasn't effected me in anyway. At the end of the day, it's the perant or gaudians choice on what there children play, untill that child becomes an adult. |

I totally agree with you BBQ because I have done lthe same lthing. I have watched rated R movies since I was 13 (I had to sneak watch em because my parents won't let me watch em untiull the age I am now which is 18) but yet I haven't done anything violent. I also was made fun of wever since second grade. I also have played violent games all my life too. It dpends on the person and everything. If the person is a wacko of a kid they would do anything that they see on tv, games, and anything else. |

I was always able to play violent games early on probably because games weren't as graphical as they are now. A few years back, Doom was the goreiest game around. As long as a person can tell the difference from video games to reality and doesn't want to just hurt people and stuff, video games aren't a problem at all. Some researchers say that playing video games is actually a good stress reliever and they recommend taking your anger out in the game. So just control yourself and its ok. I went to this place that lets you play Video Games and stuff and this guy was playing Counter Strike and he would always be flipping out at the game. He was actually yelling and getting up pacing and stuff. Those kind of people should not be allowed to play video games in public at least. Those people ruin it for the rest of us. Politicians need to stop blaming Video games and what we see on TV and realize its either bad parenting or that the way we are being raised could be different then the way they were raised. |

I play video games as well, but that isn't just all that video games are being accused off. I do agree that some Video games are really too violent, there have been some instances where kids have taken guns to school because they thought it was the cool thing to do, since they saw/played/acted it out in the video game ( I'm not just blaming it on Video games, so lol I don't want to get a whole phrase about television, media, etc) Some kids can't determine what the difference between real life and make believe, I mean when your younger you believe that you can fly, etc. Your imagination runs wild on you. Now I'm with everyone on this topic, but I'm going to make a counterstatement. You know a lot of you's were stating your opinions based on yourselves. You have to base your opinions on the general public. Maybe, you...yourself can detect the difference between reality and fake, but there are people out there who can't. Now some of your arguments were.. okay they have ratings on the games. First of all most parents that I know of, do not even look at the rating of the game, they just buy it for their kids. The cashiers at the store don't ask what your age is when your buying the game. I mean some parents will just give their kid any game they want, not caring if there is violence or not. So just keep that in mind. Here is another question: Are video games going to cause downfall of society? Or have they already? |

No. Rap caused the downfall of society. Games are games, gamers are the types of people who sit and play games, not go out and kill people. Now, some might be crazy enough to go out dressed as the favourite charector, but that doesn't make them violant. Kids that sit and play games, where are they going to find the time to go and be violant? "OMG LAST LEVEL LOLX0R! MUST FINISH!!!1!!11" mmm...a violant child? Nah. Some might, but they probably would have done anyway. Violance is brought on more by personal events than games. Diet has more of an effect of violant behavior than games. Someone who has bad diet is more likly to commit a violant crime than someone who plays GTA. |

No. The Digital Age [will have] caused the downfall of society. If you think about it, all people do these days is sit around eating fattening chips watching T.V., talk on their cell while IMing on the comp, and eat from fattening fast food resturants. Drop in exercise + lack of knowledge on how to lose weight + greedy cynical people who get paid to make you fat with horrible food and leisure technology = massive drop in human life span in the next generations.
That's funny, because most of the parents I know will not even let their kids have video games that have ANY kind of violence on them, even if there is absolutely no gore or blood, because they think video games are too violent for ANY kid until they accept them as old enough.
They don't ask you for your age because most kids lie. If they suspect anything, they will refuse service or ask for an ID (unless the parent is buying it, which they shouldn't.
It is mostly the youth and old gaming zealots that play video games, and only a minority actually have time for them anymore. Also, gamers are composted mostly of males (although females are growing in that industry as well), so no.[/color] |

I have no comment on the " will games bring the downfall of sociaty " question because I really couldn't tell ya. There is one game that i you play it everyday for about and hr. or more you will deffeenently lose wieght. It is called Dance Dance Revolution. That will help you stay active and build up you reaction speed and whatever. It will also keep your brain thinking by forceing you to get the right arrow combinations. |

I'm agreeing with what everyone is saying, I'm just trying to bring up counterpoints. You know? Some people truly believe video games are the downfall of society, because there are some kids who play TOO much and don't get out in the real world. Some games like DDR should be encouraged b/c they use exersize and movement, but others you just twidle your thumbs. |
