Disciplining Children; To Spank or not to Spank

Photoshop Noob Posts: 297 Group: Member Member #785 Joined: October 21, 2005	I like creating Debate topics incase no one noticed. This one i had a few arguments with people about. Should it be ok to use spanking as a last resort disciplining tool to teach kids what they did was wrong? I think it should if there is no other way. If your child is not responding to anything and they are old enough to understand whats going on then as a last resort it should be used. Not hard but it allows the child to know that it is wrong too do what they did. Some people go over board and use belts or other stuff. I'm totally against that but if used correctly and not repeated constantly and the child knows they were spanked for what they have done then it should be acceptable. I was spanked when i was a child and i didnt' turn out evil. I may have weird beliefs but im not psycho or hate people. What are your thoughts on it?

Posts: 140 Group: Member Member #1,143 Joined: February 14, 2006	I think its depends on the child some children can toloarte tha ttheir parents hit them for things they have done some cant. like me i'm one that i couldnt stand being hit especially being hit for something you know when your parents are wrong and wont admid it. i do belive that spanking should be used but only when both sides have a clear view of who's right and wrong and the situation cant not be handeld anyotehr way howevere i do condem the use of Od hitting a child thinking he/she will udnerstand tha their wrong as a frist resort

I was spanked until I was 5, then I punched my grandma in the face when she tried to. Though because of that, I've grown up to be a strong person who stands their ground under any circumstances. When I have a kid(s) I'll find a way to teach them self pride in a different way than the way I learned myself. If you hit a small child for any reason, I should come to your door and hit you!

Quote: "Do not harm little children." Spanking doesn't harm children. It merely gives them a short spike of pain that doesn't last for more than 5 minutes. It's just used to teach them what they did was wrong.

Pain An unpleasant sensation occurring in varying degrees of severity as a consequence of injury, disease, or emotional disorder Harm Physical or psychological injury or damage Pain = Harm Harm = Pain Without one, there is no other. Without pain, harm couldn't be. Without harm, pain would exist.

The point of spanking children is to teach them not to do something that they did wrong again. The difference between being abusive and spanking is that spanking happens when the child does something wrong. Being abusive is hurting your child for no reason.

Firefox	ssjmkm sure does know how to pick them !! yeah, spanking yer kid whenever he does somthing reeealy bad, is ok, it's normal. He'll learn not to do it....i see nothing wrong with a little discipline when needed, It's not like im going to wack him with a baseball bat, of kick him around.....we'r not monsters. It's for their own good sometimes, a good slap on the bottom.

Airblaze - If you can;t promise your kid will turn out OK, then don't have a kid if you don't trust your parental abilities. Tyro - Our genereation will be fine. It's only the stupid kids that are brats today. Don't blame them though, blame the parents for failing to communicate with their kids. The only way our generation, or the next generation will fail is if parents don't talk to their kids right. Talking will always work, beating a kid won;t always work. Use your head, not your hand.

I understand talking to your kid is good and that teaches them to be nice, but when their not nice and they're turning into a little brat, what are you going to do then? Talk to them and tell them not to do it again or we'll have another talk? So, the kid will have no respect for you at all. And, then when you take so much that you just start yelling at your kid, he'll cry and scream at you telling you he didn't do anything wrong. Want to know how to tell him he did something wrong? Whip his butt! He'll cry for ten seconds, then give it about five minutes and he'll either come tell you he's sorry, or you go in there and talk to him and tell you child why you whipped him. Hopfully he'll understand and wont ct tha way again because he knows he'll get a whipping. It keeps him out of trouble today, and hopfully for the rest of the future.
