I used to vehemently believe the Base Saiyans were stronger than Freeza by at least a few folds, but now I can't see them reaching 50% Freeza without issue. It just doesn't jive anymore. I'm not sure why it took you so long. This fact is made plainly clear in the anime. Since the anime has moving images, it's superior to the manga (which is stactic and boring) as a source of information.

So IMO, it takes until the rosat for the kids to surpass Piccolo, while using SSJ. The series work fine for me even with the base Saiyans being weaker than Frieza. Some gaps might seem too small, but the series isn't consistent about it. Frieza is 10 times weaker than Vegeta after his 1st rosat but Base Vegeta from the Buu saga is more than twenty times weaker. Posts: 3,709 Group: Member Member #11,519 Joined: July 15, 2014	The "fuller picture" is that Toriyama didn't really think it through and seemingly forgot about kaioken the moment he introduced ssj, even oozaru is established as a ten fold boost, so ssj has to be monstrous. Plus, some things are implied by feats alone that I doubt were supposed to indicate the full picture, for example Goten and Trunks, their power is impressive for their age and it's incredible they're ssjs without any trauma but I don't think Toriyama actually views them as close to Goku, Vegeta or Gohan in power.
