Yeah, that's not normal. The anime is known for power inconsistency, it's the biggest critique of the series.

Posts: 3,709 Group: Member Member #11,519 Joined: July 15, 2014	Vegeta is depicted as the master and Trunks the pupil, Vegeta has higher forms and as one of 2 fighters capable of taking down Black and yet Trunks' ssj2 is so much stronger than Vegeta's ssj2? In that case, all Trunks needs to do is learn ssjb and he'd eclipse Goku and Vegeta like nothing. I think it's more likely that Black is simply playing with Trunks and Trunks usually takes himoff guard when his attention is on Goku. Yes I know the kamehameha that hit both Trunks and Goku but Goku possibly took the greater brunt of it and you have to give some creative license, the blast just took them both out of the fight instead of killing them, same reason heroes never get hit by multiple grunts firing guns, they have good guy protection on.

It isn't really THAT large of a boost. Trunks had already attained the largest boost in the 13 years Goku had last seen him. Goku's SSJ was established in BoG to be >SSG from right before and now Trunks can contend with Goku's SSJ2. So during the 13 years Trunks had surpassed the BoG SSG Goku used against Beerus.
