Look at the state of him. Even if at full power he is enough of a match to give Boo some trouble, by the end of the fight he's so beat up and worn down, and Boo never loses stamina, so Boo would have easily been able to finish him off in the state he ends up in. If you really want an in-universe way for Gotenks to have survived then Boo just hit him into some rubble and lost track of him. Boo can't sense Ki so escaping would be easy. Or Boo, being the idiot that he is, got distracted by something else.

Gotenks surviving certainly says more than Vegeta, but that can always be attested to plot. I'm far more concerned with everyone's actual reaction than whether or not Gotenks survived.

You’re creating comparisons that were never stated. But if you really don’t want Krillin and Yamcha to be idiots, you can just say they thought Gotenks would go Super Saiyan, since it wasn’t established yet that he couldn’t transform. Once they fuse, Piccolo directly tells them to wait for the fusion to wear off so they can try as Super Saiyans. Gotenks cockily says he doesn't need to do it and then races off, leaving everyone but Piccolo to act like, because he's confident or something, he might actually be able to defeat Boo. There was no plan whatsoever. Gotenks was legitimately going to fight Boo in Base. They, without so much as a word, let their one and only chance to beat Boo, fly off while apparently vastly weaker than Vegeta.

Not sure how this is even a thread of why threads like this keep popping up.

Doesn’t Piccolo literally tell him not to go because he’s not strong enough? You’re trying way too hard to justify a scene that doesn’t make any sense regardless of if Gotenks is stronger or weaker than Vegeta. And it’s not supposed to make sense, because it is for comedic purposes. The fact is that they’re clearly way off in their estimates. Gotenks is far weaker than Boo regardless of how he compares to Vegeta. What is the logic behind “Gotenks is far weaker than Boo, but hey, he’s stronger than Vegeta, so that justifies his confidence!”? Edited by Six Trails, Jun 3 2018, 09:46 PM.

Mozilla Firefox Favourite Manga Hellsing, Elfen Lied, Trigun Maximum	It doesn't matter whether or not Gotenks is stronger than Boo, heck we're given implications that both Goku and Boo were holding back and just treating the fight as a fun little game. So it's always possible for Gotenks to have done well against the Boo that fought Goku, not realizing that Boo might not have been giving it his all. It's something Piccolo himself comes to possibly understand when he realizes Goku hadn't gone all out but Goku's remarks make it sound like even if he had, he might not have been able to defeat Boo. Considering the SEG amps allows a 4x amp between SSJ2 and SSJ3, there's more than enough room to put Base Gotenks between there and have everything both make sense and still have your precious gag scene. A gag scene shouldn't be made for the sake of making your story into crap.
