Is it too late to save humanity?

We've put enough greenhouse gasses into the air to effect climate change more than what would happen naturally. We've chopped down swathes of rainforests and helped kill about 40% of the Australian coral reef. Is all the damage we've done irreversible? Will we be able to adapt to climate change and less oxygen? Will we die out before we can colonise space? Or are people worried about nothing since either Yellowstone's volcano or a meteor's just going to kill us all anyway? And once we're out of the picture, the Earth can reset itself and let the cats take over.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I think we could fix it and survive...but we won't, we'll just argue about it until it's too late to do anything.

Literally the people in charge don't even believe climate change is happening, despite a pretty obvious visualization being average temperatures over the last 100 years or so.
That we are ruled by stupid ignorant people is our downfall.

As for Yellowstone, that's not likely to kill us apparently.
Realistically there's no way it would all just erupt suddenly and wipe out the surface, pressure doesn't work that way. It's more likely to just come out one or more areas and the pressure will release that way.

Either we make the planet inhospitable for us or a random event like a meteor wipes us out before we bother to think hey lets make living in space a reality so we don't...y'know, die?

I doubt the planet will even be around long enough for us to run out of resources and what not. But no it isn't too late, but no one is ever going to do anything. Even if the most developed countries do something, they feel they can't tell anything to the least developed countries because they're only doing what everyone else did to become advanced. It's a problem that needs to be fixed, can be fixed, but won't be fixed.

I'm pretty sure ozone can repair itself if given enough time without a bunch of crap eating it. I think we are slowly being better about things so eventually it'll be ok

Whether humans will colonize other planets is another question. But I mean it's not like climate change is going to kill us off any time soon. It's very real and terrible what we've done to the planet but people should calm down a bit I dont think this stuff is going to kill us for thousands of years. So yeah I think we could colonize other planets in that time

I mean Elon musk is already working on it. Whether it works or not now, a hundred years from now it probably will

Humanity will survive either way or the other way. The Earth will also survive since it had worse than a mere climate change. Also we just accelerate the process . It was there wduring thw last ice age. And there were more than one

I'm pretty sure the ozone isn't really the problem any more it's just that the planet is slowly but surely heating up and a whole mess of crap will happen as a result of that.

I mean just imagine how chaotic the world will be if the sea level rises the 4m or so it's meant to when the ice caps melt?
And how hot it will get without the ice to both cool the planet and reflect the heat.

Aside from leaving the planet I'm not so sure we'll survive that really, we can't evolve fast enough to adapt to that heat and living underground would be even hotter, we'd need massively advanced and sustainable bunkers to make it.

Hence why we should have made bunkers everywhere many many years ago so that they could at least be upgraded...

It's all fine until it's not and if you've made no preparations, you are f***ed.

Actually Steve the volume of fresh water flowing into the sea from the Arctic could cause the weather to get cooler eventually. It's all to do with how the gulf stream carries warm air currents with it. Too much fresh water could stop the gulf stream and with it the flow of warm air, possibly creating an ice age. That's arguably worse for us than if it simply got hotter. Unless we learn to farm on glaciers.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Probably. We're quite self-destructive as a species, both to each other and to the planet that we inhabit. I think a vast array of things could take us out internally by this point, which is by no means comforting in the slightest.

Haven't heard that theory but I'm not sure where all the heat that's previously reflected by the ice caps would go in this case, maybe it'd cool it down for a time I guess.

As for an ice age I think we'd survive that better than heat, cold is much easier to deal with because heat is easier to generate.
If it gets hotter we won't be able to deal with very simple but widespread issues like roads melting, which will cripple the whole infrastructure of...well almost everywhere really.
Not to mention machinery malfunctioning from heat constantly blasting it.

As well as people not being able to adapt.

If we have to pick, I'll take an ice age. It's easier to wear 10 jackets than it is to drive around in a freezer

It's cool you convinced yourself of that. But the fact that smarter people than me, with degrees and research, all disagree still worries me.

Yeah but if it doesnt strike in the next 100 years who cares ? I dont

Besides. The climate change would be a thing even if there werent any human on earth. The process would be slower though

Fact still is that people will die because we're making the climate change so quickly.
The fact that it's not going to happen in our lifetimes or that it would happen anyway doesn't mean we shouldn't try to prevent as many deaths as possible.
