And now it is Piccolo's turn for appreciation.

Piccolo certainly isn't one of my favorites, but I don't dislike him either. He's a character that I don't necessarily draw favortism towards but I thoroughly enjoy his battles. Even before being good, he presented himself as one of the best bad guys (not counting his daddy of course).

His fight against Goku is easily one of my favorites and I absolutely love it. It's too bad we never see his giant form again, but there was never really a place for it.

Piccolo has some of the best power ups and intros when he arrives to the battlefield. His moments against Frieza, Cell, and 17 are all awesome. His Light Grenade and Hellzone Grenade are both awesome.

And I of course can't forget about his beautiful beautiful Special Beam Cannon.

Also, his regeneration is super handy and dope. The level of darkness was great when he tore his own arm off against Goku.

The last girl I was in love with, I fell in love with because of our shared appreciation for Piccolo. Unfortunately we didn't hit it off beyond friends, but I still cherish all those talks we had, Piccolo related or not.

Maybe Piccolo became my favorite because he was the outcast, the odd one out. The only namekian on Earth, he certainly sticks out. Whatever it was that drew me to Piccolo, he became and remains my favorite character.

The true badass of DBZ right here. Unlike Vegeta.

I used to like him up until the buu saga. Where he was a parody of himself

That's a nice story.

Piccolo became my favorite character only at the second watch of the series and my appreciation for him lasts, say, until the end of the Cell games. After, maybe only with some scarce exceptions. But I won't decry him just because they didn't know how to handle him after 200+ episodes.

I enjoy his arrogance mixed with the character development he underwent in parallel. Unlike Vegeta - he did have his own pride, as shown on King Kai's planet, not wanting to mingle his training with the one performed by the Earthlings. However, he was amplifying his good side by wanting to help his little friend, Gohan. He had no reason, though. He was born solely to kill his father's enemy - and now I know that villains rarely get sympathy from the audience, but it's understandable why Piccolo Jr. was one. He was 'programmed' to do this one thing, just like the Androids, and Goku did kill his father. If we were more subjective, it's understandable on Piccolo Jr.'s, part. That's why it makes it more heroic when he sacrifices himself for Gohan, he had no moral obligation to die for the son of his father's enemy, but he chose to. And while he was this cocky, trait that we can deduce from the scene where he turned on his friends(couldn't help), he actually means no harm and is pretty 'philanthropic' for a former evil alien. Basically, he's more of an outcast / antisocial one, which makes his character immersive.

Also, his abilities are awesome. Eyes-lasers, mouth-lasers, modifying body size, Special Beam Cannon, regeneration, telepathy etc. Once again, just like Gohan, a character with a lot of potential and material to work on. One thing that would've been interesting, was if King Piccolo was revived and we would have had this confrontation between them.

Now, his personality has been desaturated as far as being patronized by the others - he acted like a bunny scared of its own shadow when he saw Shin, a pretty-much-nobody, Bulma and Chichi intimidated him because he wouldn't let their brats have some bedtime when down there Boo was massacring the entire humankind, Goku and Vegeta mocking him at the U6 vs U7 Tournament etc. He even freaks out that the Lookout was being trashed. Old Piccolo Jr. is incontestably better.

Thala na Gethu!

Piccolo is a fantastic character. So great that he'll put 90% anime characters hang their heads in shame

Why?
1. His concept. His creation as off-spring to by far, baddest mfker ever & later becoming an anti-hero to full-fledged Zetto Warrior over the course of mere 100+ episode is clap-worthy

2. Piccolo's design. An ancient, Arabic+Indian-esque turban plus Green skin colour is distinct. With his accessories removed, Piccolo with his blue gi alone is DOPE!!!

3. Voiced by legendary Toshio Furukawa. He gives a very raw, alien-esque vibe which feels grounded yet man of his words vibe. Unmatched air surrounds him...

4. Character himself. Dude's a competent 2nd Leader in Command of Z fighters next to Goku. His intellect, intuitions & actions (particularly shines in Saiyan, Cell & 1st Half of Boo Arc) are truly.....its impossible to even think of Veggie or Goku to take up such responsibilities

5. Impact he had on Gohan, Veggie & others towards Mr. Satan is mainstay till the end of the series
