Should it be okay to treat men in ways we would not expect to treat women? Take builders wolf whistling at a passing woman for example. That kind of behaviour isn't considered acceptable any more. But reverse the roles and we can see the double standard.

Now do we want a world where both men and women shall not be treated this way? Or is it better for both genders to just accept being perved on from time to time? Or should women be allowed to ogle men however they want but not the other way around?

My suggestion is that we have some kind of boundary for both. A reasonable amount of eye candy for entertainment purposes like we have in Poldark and Game of Thrones. But not so much that it becomes exploitative. And in real life it should be more frowned upon for women to publicly phworr at a man just as it is when the shoe is on the other foot.

We always assume there is a double standard here, but would you want an ugly woman to check you out and wolf whistle you? Or would you find it uncomfortable.

Women generally perceive men as less attractive then men perceive women. I'm sure that if a super handsome hunk checked out a woman the women wouldn't mind as much.
The same goes for men, if a cute girl checks you out, that's amazing, but when some really fat really ugly woman starts showing interest it gets awkward and uncomfortable.

Well, there has to be some different guidelines for sure. It's clear that most women have a problem with what you mentioned. I mean, but as a guy, if a girl did that to me I wouldn't care. I'm not sure most men would care. Men and women are different, so why should they be treated the same with everything? But I mean, I don't know why anyone is whistling at anyone to begin with. That's just idiotic.

That I would say is part of the double standard itself.

If a hot guy checks out babes at the office they'll swoon over it.
The ugly spotty guy does it and it's sexual harassment.

Personally unless someone is actually touching you without consent or following you around I don't think anyone should care. Where I live there's lots of dickheads about that shout random s*** at you, it's impossible to walk past a group of teenagers without being called "Gay boy" or some other hilarious and original insult like that.
Why care though? Unless they're going to follow me and potentially attack me I just don't give a s***, they're stupid a** teenagers.

People tend to say "rape happens" to that but so do muggings, there's reason to fear any sort of person that shouts random crap but the probability of anything happening is still low. You can lock yourself up from the world forever or just live life.

Anyway.
It is pretty f***ing ridiculous. Makes me laugh whenever women are going on about sexism and objectification and then Ellen Degeneres brings out half naked hunks for the audience to scream and shout over.
What the f*** is that? Unless literally every woman there is a lesbian and is just trying to be funny, literally objectification.

I don't care about any of these things personally, it just annoys me when people selectively care and want to preach about how wrong everyone else is.
Either people can be objectified or they can't, pick one.
And obviously don't do it if someone is expressly against you doing so, plenty people love the attention, that much is obvious.

Many of the "double standards" are not actually double standards because men and women are different. Therefore it's reasonable to have standards that are different.

For example, men are more intimidating than women and are more likely to make unwanted sexual advances. Women less intimidating than men and are less likely to make unwanted sexual advances. Knowing this it makes sense that women will need more protections.

Men take it differently than women do. Women like attention but it can be a bit more intimidating or objectifying when guys gock at girls than the other way around.

This is a stereotype and very rarely happens in the workplace. Good looks can probably get you a little bit farther than no good looks, but it doesn't help you with women in the workplace. If the girls swoon over a good looking guy in the office, they are probably very shallow.

Women like attention
Not necessarily. Not all of them.

I think that the ideal (and mostly likely in an utopic world, so unrealisable) would be for mutual respect and equity to be applied and for nobody to make uncomfortable anybody. Be it a simple stare, wolf whistle, pervy comments or sexual harassment. Not even from hot girls to insecure guys. It's a matter of basic manners. Simply because some people enjoy the attention, doesn't make the act itself 'ok'.
