A different AVP. ![]() Which movie did you like best? Which movie had the best characters, in your opinion? Which monster did you find cooler? Discuss similar questions about how the two movies can challenge one another in different categories. This oughta be interesting. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Alien is a better film but Predator is more entertaining for me. The characters in Alien are fairly one dimensional. Only Ripley is given any kind of background and even then it's vague. In Predator the cast have much more personality. Predator. Xenomorphs are just animals but Predators actually have sentience. Plus a single predator can take out scores of xenomorphs. Alien isn't about action. It's essentially a horror film. There's a lot of tension created by the dark, confined spaces of the ship and they have no real weapons to use. In contrast Predator is all out action from the very beginning. We see Duke's men tear a base to pieces and of course there's the famous scene where they all fire into the jungle. They are both tales of survival against superior creatures but one is a nuanced lesson about trying to use nature as a weapon and the other is stating that we are not the superior species outside of planet Earth. |
