As years go by people get more and more pissed off by the media, how clickbait articles misconstrue everything to get people to look at the article, how they focus on some things but not others and how the media is so often a tool used to discredit something, in a way that makes no logical sense. People are tired of it and want something to change. Elon Musk is fighting this particular battle, I really hope he brings about a change. He's seeking to make a website that rates the credibility of news outlets and such, a poll he made that 680,000 people voted in showed 88% of those were in favour of a site like that. Which on the media side of things has lead to much criticism, by people clearly fearful of their position in the world. It's rather telling. Can the media ever go back to being decent do you think? Obviously there will always be bias between opposing sides like the right and left wing but can it get to a point where media outlets won't straight up lie for money? There are so many of them that will post an article and if you literally take a minute to Google the subject material you'll see that they're either lying about it or are just wrong in general, which is just embarrassing. Their grip on the world certainly wanes but what will it take for this to actually stop? I guess there needs to be a culling of sorts, there are too many desperately trying to get attention from the same groups of people so they have to shout louder and stupider to get said attention. It would be interesting to see how this would change the world, if media was more about hard facts instead of warping them how would this affect elections and such? It's impossible to count how many articles demeaned Trump, said he would never be President, said he'd probably start WW3, would destroy the country etc etc He still became President. For all the huffing and puffing the media accomplishes little in actuality. People are easily lead by things they agree with, the opposite is also true. But what if there were only undeniable facts? I think it would be interesting to see what happens when people have to make their own minds up rather than to be lead along a particular path by some sensationalist writing. How do we get there though? |

It's important to know where there are news outlets saying one thing, there's another news outlet saying the opposite. When it comes to Trump, Fox (and Friends) are that opposite outlet. Not everybody was critical about Donald Trump and the voter base he had wouldn't listen to news anyway, as he made promises they were happy with. This includes NRA and other right-wing promises. As for clickbaiting news, it's what it has come down to. They make their titles as vague as possible so they can get as many clicks as possible, we just have to get used to that. We can pretty much distinguish what it's about to begin with and if we are interested in that kind of subject, we will click it. If you're not interested, you don't click. Why would you click on something you're not interested in? On the level, I think media is pretty good nowadays because it's so available. Remember, 20 years ago most people read the newspaper that came in the mail or was sold in the store. In my honest opinion, internet news has always been clickbait. It's all about perspective. |

As long as its most profitable to make clickbait, it's going to continue to be widespread. To make it less profitable, education (especially as pertains to critical thinking) needs to improve or the way advertising works need to change (e.g. Google not putting ads on clickbait) or content creators need to be fined or maybe something else needs to happen. |

This is where a lot of them straight up lie though, they say something extreme in the title and then the article is either completely wrong or doesn't even touch upon what the title says. Sites like Vice are horrendous for things like that, seems like it doesn't take much to be considered a journalist any more. As for us just having to get used to it, I think not. They do not hold the power any more as people are getting tired of it, the bigger ones can get away with it. For now at least. This media credibility site should sent waves through the system, if they don't desperately clamour together to take it down though. |

The type of clickbait I was referring to is news articles in actual news. BBC, NYTimes, The Guardian and that sort of thing. They've become worse and worse, but so far it's mostly wholesome clickbait, it actually is relevant to the article. |
