A Quiet Place is a 2018 American horror film directed by John Krasinski, who stars alongside his real-life spouse Emily Blunt. In A Quiet Place, a family must live life in silence while hiding from creatures which hunt exclusively by sound.

Has anyone watched this movie? It's been getting a lot of critical acclaim and I hear a sequel is already in development.
I watched it in theaters last Friday and it was a very interesting experience on a few different levels. For starters, this is perhaps the most silent movie I've ever watched and it does a phenomenal job at playing with varying levels of sound to deliver a very tense atmosphere to the viewer. It's the kinda movie you feel submerged in from the get go and almost feel obligated to participate in as far as noise reduction goes -- so pro tip from le fruit here, if you want to watch this movie in theaters like I did make sure you catch an early screening during a week day and avoid crowded places like shopping malls or other popular cinema places that tend to be packed with people. You REALLY want to enjoy the silence in this movie and be able to pay attention to every little cracking, snapping, clicking sound the movie provides which can make a huge difference in your viewing experience.

Then the other cool thing about this film was that the concept was pretty neat and some parts about the execution were also quite interesting -- for instance, one of the child actors is deaf (both IRL and on the movie) and every time we're seeing the events of the film happen from her perspective all the sounds in the movie become completely muted so that you can experience what the character is living at that moment.

My biggest issue with this film was how incredibly dumb this family seemed to be about their survival plan. They kept on making the most ridiculously stupid mistakes that seemed too convenient as plot devices. I get that they had to be in danger at least SOME time otherwise nothing would happen in the movie and it would be an epic bore fest, but holy cow, did this family make stupid choices. I don't wanna go into too many details in case you guys haven't watched the movie and don't wish to be spoiled, but please tell me if you have watched it so we can go over more specific things and discuss the movie a bit more in depth.

Overall, pretty chilling concept and a decent film, but already grossly overrated imo.

It's still showing in some theaters over here, so I might go watch it with a friend.

I've also heard good things about it. I just have little time and when I do go to the movies, the super hero movies take priority. This is definitely on my watch list and I'll likely rent it once, it's available online.

The concept of A Quiet Place sounds a lot like a movie I saw on Netflix called "Hush". I'll link it just so you all can see what I'm thinking. I haven't read the description of A Quiet Place yet, so I could be way off.

^ I actually much prefer Hush to A Quiet Place. They're not that similar plot wise but I guess you could say that the absence of sound is present in both movies to some capacity and that's probably the best selling point for both films, so I do get the comparison.

In Hush the main protagonist is deaf, so she's not able to hear the guy who is invading her house and terrorizing her. In A Quiet Place, they have to stay as silent as possible to stay alive due to these alien looking creatures hunting by sound. One is a very classic home invasion type of horror where the other is a monster/creature flick.

Speaking of the creatures in A Quiet Place, they share an uncanny resemblance to the creatures in the Stranger Things (you know, the ones that look like they have some sort of flower on their head that opens up to reveal their mouth) and a lot of fans are already drawing parallels between the two universes because of that, which I guess is kinda cool.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I'm definitely not illegally downloading this right now but I really want to see it.

The trailer interested me a little bit, right up until the stupid thing the kid does, because it's always the kid but after hearing some reviews it sounds very unique and like there's actual tension in it, which is missing from most horror movies these days.

I love the little details that seem to be in the movie, like how they have board games but because wooden pieces would make noise, they're made out of fabric.
Sounds like it's over all a well thought out film.

^ I thought the attention to little details like that was pretty neat too.

Another thing you can sorta see on the trailer is that their diet is mostly based around vegetables and other food that doesn't make a crunchy sound when you eat it, which is another cool little detail to mention.

The thing about A Quiet Place though is that despite all that, the plot still had too many incongruences and things that made no sense, which kinda dismissed all the other little details about the tactics they had to make as little sound as possible. This isn't necessarily a spoiler so I'll just say it -- at one point in the movie the father explains to his son that when they are near a waterfall they can make all the sound they want and even starts yelling in front of him to prove that it is safe to be loud just as long as there is an even louder source of constant noise nearby. After that I just couldn't help myself thinking WHY THE HELL AREN'T YOU ALL LIVING BY THE WATERFALL THEN! Why do you have to live in a cottage house in the middle of nowhere if you've literally just stated you'd be exponentially safer in a place with constant noise! It just made absolutely no sense.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to logic flaws in this movie, which I'm dying to discuss with you guys, soooo go watch the movie asap!

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I saw this in the cinema a month or so ago. I thought it was great. The concept was really unique and created a new cinematic experience (for me at least), which you don't often get nowadays. Even putting that aside, the film in general was just really well done. They created a really interesting world with a lot of attention to detail and did a great job at keeping you on edge with the tense and nervy scenes.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I will be writing spoilers here, it's been out a while and I figure you shouldn't really be looking here at this point if you want to avoid them.

Holy s*** that was a great movie, I can't say I was terrified all the time but damn.
After a certain point in the movie we paused it to go get some snacks and we were legit worried about making noise, because...you know, what if!? It made me feel really uncomfortable, it was so well done that it immerses you amazingly well.
I can't imagine how a cinema viewing would be, wish I'd went.

It has some story flaws to it but that's almost inescapable really, some of the characters made some really awful decisions but...well, I sure am glad the boy died.
From the trailer it seemed like he was going to ruin the whole movie, he puts on that damn toy and then the things are hunting them, stupid kid.

Right away within 10 minutes you know just how dangerous the world is, the consequences of making noise and how much time they've spent doing everything they can to reduce or remove it.
Just...brilliant really.
The girl character really annoyed me, I understand her character but in that world her actions seemed really dumb. She grows throughout the film though. Not much to say about the older son really, he sorta remains a wimp. A sequel is in the works so maybe he'll be in it, though I kind of hope it's a completely different locale.
Seeing how other people deal with this would be really interesting.

Pretty much all I didn't like was those few dumbass character moments, how quite a bit wasn't explained and...how on Earth did she get that baby out so quick? She must have just beat down on her stomach and fired him out

As for explanation mostly a personal issue, I like to know how these things happen, if a single shotgun blast to the face(with exposed fleshyness) can kill one of these things, how did humanity fall? Could they take tank shells and missiles? Seems doubtful.
And if there were enough of them to overwhelm the whole planet I'd think they'd be everywhere.

Though one thought I had was...maybe they've just died off? That would be cool, since they're so adept at killing everything food must be scarce for them, it'd be cool if they could starve instead of being these immortal killing machines most movie monsters turn out to be.
Though do they even eat people? Wasn't really shown, though would you want to stick around and find out...

I want the sequel to be maybe a year later where people have kind of advanced their tactics more, more of these creatures have died off and the playing field is somewhat even with rumours of high pitched frequencies immobilizing them or scaring them away.
However it'd be kinda lame if it devolved in to an action flick where they all have sonic weapons and whatnot. That's going to be a hard movie to write, it's sorta like lightning in a bottle. If they go for a slow, tense thriller like this it probably won't be nearly as exciting but if they make it more about fighting back it runs the risk of becoming really generic and uninteresting.

I trust they will have some creative ideas either way though.

But yeah, really the main thing that bothered me is...how did they win? It doesn't add up.
For instance, just thought of this, can these things swim? Even if they can surely living on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean would be pretty safe, there should be lots of people left still.

I think it was cool for what it is. I kinda made a mistake going into it expecting a really scary horror movie. That's not really what this is
