So there is a very real likelyhood he'd suffocate before he could actually get to it in time. If nothing else it is an advantage to the rover that Goku will need to adapt to the lighter gravity.

Even if you give the Mars Rover a laser like that, the crew manning the thing from a space station is running on like a five minute delay from what it sees and what the crew sees.

Especially considering Goku's body is a bit more durable than most. It's able to take a hit better than a lot of ballistics gel can.
