A peerage is basically a Lordship awarded to you by the British government. It allows you to enter the House of Lords and be a part of their decisions. Kind of like a Senate, only most of the people involved actually care about things and know what they are talking about. Of course not every Lord is a good person but I've watched BBC parliament a number of times and every time I've watched the lords sessions I've seen reasonable, dedicated, intelligent and passionate men and women debating mostly important and sensitive issues. Now for my actual question. Would you accept a peerage and if you did, would you attend parliament? Would you want to debate issues and involve yourself in decision making? Or would you just be happy with the title of Lord and leave the politics to the experts as some actually do? |

Are there any actual responsibilities with the position? It sounds like the title would give me more say politically but I'm not very political right now so I don't know if I would suddenly increase my political action. It would be nice to have a say on topics that I'm very interested in though without having to go through a someone else. |

I'd give it a shot. If I can use it for good, I don't care where the power comes from. Do they get paid though? I'm not moving to London full time. If it was possible, maybe I abolish the House of Lords when I'm ready to move on. |

You get paid every time you attend a session and your expenses are all covered too. Members of the House of Lords are not paid a salary. They can claim £300 or £150 for every day they attend the House and undertake parliamentary work. So if you go a lot you could make a living from it. |
