I have an essay coming up and I need to choose a book to do it on

I have to tie events in the book to three things: a historical moment, politics, and culture

I'm thinking either lord of the flies or great gatsby. I haven't read these books in a while so which do you think would be easier? And do you have another book that you would recommend that would be easier?

The Things They Carried.

I highly recommend this, and it easily fits all of the three things you mentioned.

I'm just curious, how much time do you have? Would you be able to read a new book or are you much better off picking a book that you've read recently?

I don't have that much time. Couple weeks at most. I think I might just do gatsby

Have you guys read gatsby? Could you guys help me remember some scenes in it that could be tied to historical events, politics, and culture?

Unless you think lord of the flies would be easier?

"The Things They Carried" would be both a decent enough and easy enough read. If you don't know, it's about soldiers in the Vietnam War and...well in a sense, what they carried. It's based off of short stories of the different soldiers and commanders with references of the author's own experiences in the war. Like Rockman said, it would be easy to get all three of the things you need.

Plus, as a book written in the 90s, it's style and substance may end up being easier to get into than say "The Great Gatsby" and "Lord of the Flies" which were written in the 1920s and 1950s respectfully.

I don't know any of the books listed. I could list a few short books but it may be easier for you to stick with what you've read already if you are short on time.

I like Pokémon

Lord of the Flies is a great read and it's only 250 pages or so, which can easily be read in a few hours. I think it's a much more gripping story than Gatsby as well as being easier to understand with very easily identified themes and so on. Don't know anything about the Vietnam book mentioned but it also seems interesting.
