JUSTICE LEAGUE IS NOW THE LOWEST-GROSSING MOVIE OF THE DCEU

In a not-so-surprising development, Justice League is officially the lowest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe so far, with a total domestic gross of $229 million.

The superhero team-up couldn't compete with Man of Steel's gross of $291 million, and you know things are really bad when you play second fiddle to the likes of Suicide Squad, which was still able to take in more than $325 million in North America (and actually won an Oscar, for Best Makeup and Hairstyling). Next on the list is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a domestic haul of $330 million, which is impressive since almost every critic hated it (*cough* "Save Martha!" *cough*). And, at the top, we, of course, have Wonder Woman with $412 million.

All in all, the League sits between two Batman origin projects: Tim Burton's 1989 classic with Michael Keaton ($251 million) and Christopher Nolan's first entry in the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins ($205 million).

While Justice League is still playing in a few theaters around the world (per Gizmodo), the movie's international box-office sales will most likely settle around $657 million, not too far behind Man of Steel's worldwide total of $668 million. $657 million seems to be the final figure for Justice League, as it has already dropped on home video in the U.S.

Unbelievable....I didn't think it was do so bad in the box office.

Shame, though it's not like box officer has ever equaled or mattered to a movie's quality.

Lots of gems from the past didn't do too well at the box office, same goes for several movies nowadays. Not that this movie is exactly a gem, though.

Can't say I'm impressed given how the general public reacted to this movie with just a "meh". Justice League was an enjoyable but utterly forgettable movie-going experience, like most other comic book movie these days. It's not as much of a mess as some people (the ones who didn't find it just mediocre) make it out to be, tho--compared to something like Suicide Squad, it was a masterpiece of cohesion.

I'm not surprised. The movie was a huge letdown, and didn't deserve a huge profit.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah but it was so much better than Suicide Squad and BvS so this is odd, I guess maybe since it wasn't as good as Wonder Woman it was extra disappointing?

DCEU is probably pretty f***ed then, unless Aquaman is truly amazing but I think the only interested people are GoT fans who can never get enough Drogo, the relatively few Aquaman fans and the morbidly curious.

I reckon it'll be s*** honestly, based on the CG of the Atlantis scene in Justice League. A whole movie like that would be incredibly drab.

I'm surprised, but admittedly it makes sense. This movie only managed to be better than BvS virtue of not trying as hard and being less of everything. I would have thought just the name "Justice League" would have made it enough movie, but evidently after following BvS's disaster of a launch, and then just being so... Well uninteresting as a film. The most interesting about it was the mess behind the scenes that was made after BvS screwed up. Heck my parents who like just about every movie went away from this unimpressed, and this includes movies like Gods of Egypt.

I might have enjoyed Suicide Squad more than this. I hated the tone of this movie, and thought the only interesting characters were WW and Supes. Batman was nothing like himself from BvS and I liked him in that.

I actually still haven't seen this movie. From the trailers and all, I just wasn't interesting in seeing it. I put it on my watch list (Google Play) and I'll rent it one of these days when I'm bored enough or when I realize that it may be relevant to future movies.

I didn't see it in theaters. I waited until it was available to download, and I'm not even ashamed of that. It wasn't worth my time TBH. I despise the giant tonal shift from BvS. I hated how Batman was super brooding and angry in BvS, but he's cracking jokes and more or less light-hearted in this one. Like, Superman's death affected him that much? I doubt it. I didn't care for Aquaman too much, and barely paid attention to Cyborg he was so bland.

It's a shame because this movie was the first one of the DCEU to get the tone of Superman right. And the scene of him coming back from the dead to trounce the Justice League was pretty sweet. But all that got wasted on a very mundane movie that was choppy as hell and tonally inconsistent, especially compared to BvS like Pyrus pointed out.

I'm shocked to see this grossing less than MoS however. Aquaman has the team from the Fast and the Furious franchise working on it, so maybe that group has its act together and can churn out some enjoyable action schlock that can bring some goodwill back into the series.

I really liked it too, but I can see why it's not doing so good.

I can see why too, but I did not expect it to outright bomb like it did. I think a lot of the excitement really went out with BvS, which was pretty much a Justice League-light. After that, seeing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on screen together didn't have the same impact.
