Just finished watching this in theatre. An alright movie, pretty typical plotline. I have no gripes, but no praises either. Anyone else watch it?

Yet to watch, cuz was so caught-up with symposium & datelines. Also, Ready Player One was the one I initially wanted to watch

I think judging from reviews (RT) & trailers released thus far, I think its a decent film. Its bashed by critics/gamers, but as ordinary audience, its decent

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah I have no desire to watch it at all but from the sounds of it, it's at least...not terrible.

I don't really like how they've kinda just copied the first game of the reboot however, I'd have been interested in watching it if it had a completely fresh story and ideas.

Also 0/10, no Angelina Jolie sideboob.

Tomb Raider was like a holy grail when you were 11 and didn't yet know how to use the internet.

Not sure how they can capture the essence of what Lara Croft is through film, they failed once before with Angelina Jolie. The recent games are actually a much more detailed depiction of who and what she is.

They only took a few details from the game, it has its own story still.

I saw it last weekend. I really appreciate the first half of the movie. It took deliberate time setting up Lara Croft, getting backstory and having her arrive on the Island. This was all good stuff and I was enjoying watching her character get into Tomb Raider mode.

Once it came time for the actual raiding to begin, things fell flat. The movie took a realistic approach to the idea of these ancient tombs, and they tried to keep it in the real world, but that just didn't work. It's like the filmmakers were afraid to bring in the supernatural elements even when the story called for them.

I agree, that was a letdown. Here I was hoping for that guy to be proven wrong at any moment, and he just wasnt.

Oh.

Well, whatever interest I had has immediately rescinded.

Jesus, when you're making a video game movie you decide to remove the fantasy side of it?
AND THE BOOBS
Heresy of the highest echelon.

I'm guessing that was an attempt to appeal to the masses 'cause what if they don't "Get" the gamey stuff.
Even though the most popular movie series in the entire world right now is about a bunch of people with super powers, aliens and big green, blue and purple dudes.
Pretty sure audiences can handle some supernatural stuff

Pretty much. Taking away anything mystical or awe inspiring about the location undercut any real impact her journey had. It really just fell completely flat once that aspect became the focus.
