What games this year were your favorites? Overall I'd say for me it's pretty easily The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and it's not even close. Assassin's Creed Origins and Shadow of War I also really enjoyed. |

Nioh for me. Amazing game, it takes the Souls genre and reworks it in to a slightly easier but more more fast paced and fun package that's still plenty difficult and has a ridiculous amount of variety. So many options to choose from and almost all of them are good. The story isn't anything to write home about but it's nice to feel involved, rather than just some rando that mindlessly wanders about killing the big things. You actually know what's going on and can see that things are progressing due to your actions. The mission structure I like over Dark Souls' hub world where half the time you're wandering about like "Where the f*** was that place again?" You even get a selection of I got 100% for this game and helped people out online for ages, couldn't get enough. Runners up: Horizon Zero Dawn, fantastic game. Looks gorgeous, plays extremely well, interesting story and a very different main character. Aloy isn't some gung-ho action hero she's a fighter looking for truth and she's fed up of the mystical bulls*** her people talk about and tells it to their faces. Gets a bit easy after a while even on Hard but still consistently fun for a solid 50 or so hours and was fun enough to 100% also. Prey, another great game. Fairly unique story in a very unique setting with some awesome weapons and powers, great amount of branching paths for quite a linear game. Brilliant art design. Sadly bogged down by loading times and having to go in and out of areas a lot. Some sections you have to run somewhere fast which means going through an area faster than it took to load... Still, great game. Hope there's a sequel. |
