It truly was a Shawshank redemption

There's a movement in the UK (although it might happen elsewhere, not sure) where pubs or bars employ something called 'ask for Angela'. Basically, if somebody feels threatened or intimidated by somebody sexually, say on a date or they're being harassed on an night out, they can ask a bar staff for 'Angela' and the bar staff will take them to the back or to one side and help them out. This is a good idea in theory, but my question is this: what's the point in it? If you're in that situation, surely you could do the exact same thing but substitute 'Angela' and ask for 'help'. The only way I can see it making sense is that you can ask for help without being heard asking for help (although I don't see how that's an issue), but if the place is advertising that it employs this policy (which they are doing) or the movement is being talked about to raise awareness, then people are aware of what you're doing. Is there something that I'm missing here, or is this a pointless movement? |

"Then you've got the chance to do better next time." "Next time?" "Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is." | |

My exact same thought. If they want harassed people to seek help without the aggressor knowing, then I have bad news for them. I mean, 'Angela' is advertised everywhere. All people learn about it from it's explicit description. Then you go out with this girl you want to screw and she orders an Angela. 'Tsk, there's no way there could be any connection, not at all.' |

yeah... This was clearly barely thought about at all. If nobody knows about asking for Angela, then nobody does it and it doesn't help anybody. If lots of people know than everybody knows that you're asking for help. So why not ask for help? Clearly a case of someone trying to be clever, but when you think about it for longer than a minute you realize it's not that useful at all. |

Now that I thought about it, do you know what could be actually useful? Having an 'emergency button' in each toilet room, so that the victim can ask for help without being noticed and have a waiter or the guard meet with them in a separate place and help them. Makes more sense. |
