New router problem

I got a new router this afternoon from Virgin media. It's the hub 3. Supposed to be the best one yet. Except I'm only getting 4mbps from it. Now the lady on the phone said that it might be because sometimes new routers take a few days before they can get up to optimum speed. How true is this?

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'm not sure what hub we have, I think the 100 hub (whatever that is), but when we got it delivered our internet worked perfectly pretty much instantly upon setup.

That's not true at all. It either works or it doesn't. No such thing as it warming up like that. Especially if your previous router had the better speed.
