Crazy Awesome Legend

In primary school our assemblies were pretty great. We'd all walk in single file and sit in rows on the floor. Then we'd sing a bunch of songs with the lyrics projected on a screen. For the first couple of years it was just hymns but eventually it switched to more contemporary music. Micheal Jackson, The Beatles, Luther Vandross. I use to love those songs even though I had no idea where the songs came from. We also used to get this ventriloquist come in and teach us bible fables. Which were actually really entertaining because she'd paint the things on a canvas with water colours whilst keeping up the act with the dummy. Which I think is a pretty cool way to learn about basic morality. There was a vicar who use to come in and preach as well. He was cool. He used to get people to come up to the front and play the yes no game. Basically he asks each person a question and they can only answer using yes or no. Secondary school assemblies were crap. I didn't even bother turning up to those. |

I went to a Church of England primary school so all I remember from assemblies is a lot of praying and hymn singing. I never took part in the prayers, but I do remember enjoying shouting the hymns as loud as I could. We also had a nun that would come in to visit regularly. I'm sure it wasn't all religious stuff, but that's what I mainly remember. |

In secondary school kids kept fainting during our assemblies. It was like an epidemic, they would go on for ages sometimes and if it was a hot day it felt like there was no air in that hall. I was edgy so I kept getting told off for not joining in the prayers, thug life baby. |

I went to a catholic school, at first they took all the religion stuff very seriously, constantly we were being read from the bible and there was all the singing. After a while even the teacher couldn't be bothered with it. One of those typical "catholic" schools that were 1/3rd atheist and 1/4th Muslim. |
