It truly was a Shawshank redemption

A new feature has popped up that's annoying me. I googled it and found nothing, so thought I'd ask and see if anybody here knows how to fix it.

Basically, when I open the Google home page, a box drops down from the search bar with my recent searches. I don't have a problem with it saving my search history and don't want to turn it off (I like the autocomplete when I'm searching for things). But the drop down box is annoying visually. So yeah, does anybody know how to turn off just the drop down box without turning off saved search history/autocomplete?

This is what it looks like:

Spoiler: click to toggle

It opens the page like that, when I'd rather it just had the search bar.

I hate to say this because it's contrary to what you want, but I specifically have search history turned off and I don't get the drop down. That's basically what it is, a drop down of some of the stuff you've searched.
Consider that the URL bar also works as a google search, and if you don't delete your browser history, it can help with suggestions similar to what you've searched in the past through it. For instance, I never bookmarked the DBSuper link, I just start telling the browser that i want to watch it and it gives me an old link.

So you're considering taking Japanese huh? Good on you.

It actually didn't show up when I logged on this morning. Hopefully that means it's stopped, but if not I guess I'll just have to live with it.

And yeah, I've been learning off and on the last year or so, but there aren't many lessons near me. I'm thinking of either doing Skype lessons, or there are lessons at the local university (which work out at a similar price, but you have to pay in bulk for 8 week sessions, which is annoying).

The Lord of the Dark

I've had that for a while but it never bothered me. Never heard of a way to get rid of it.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Hasn't happened to me for a few days now. I didn't do anything, just seemed to stop on it's own.
