Just seen this story online. Definitely looking forward to this whenever it's released.

I hope they still use Howard Shore's music.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I'm cautiously optimistic, there's been a lot of high quality TV shows over the past few years and I'd think this is among them.

Just...can they ever really match the epic, as in the true definition epic, feel of stuff like 3:15:

Also it's going to need one hell of a budget to be good.

On the other hand, being a TV show and having an obviously much longer run time there's a lot more room for stuff that had to be left out of the movies.

Also good God how could they possibly replace Andy Serkis as Gollum?

lol

I love how Steve practically said everything I did when I saw these news.

But yeah, there's a lot of things I'd love to see in this TV show, such as designs, musical scores, etc from past Tolkienverse (I swear that term will become a shared universe one of these days) adaptations, including the animated ones. In my opinion animation's always been the way to go with LOTR or any series busy with tons of elements that require a high budget and lots of CGI.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Will they have to replace him? This is a prequel series last I read, meaning Gollum shouldn't be up to too much. However, I can see him popping up for a guest appearance, so it shouldn't be too hard to snatch him up for at least one or two episodes.

A prequel? Hmm. That's both interesting and meh at the same time.

I hear there's a lot more magic and stuff in the books, which would be nice to see.
But if it's a prequel, canon to the movies, then it'd be kinda lame if crazy magic was happening all the time when the movies were sort of toned down.

Like wtf Gandalf you were calling down meteors and murdering armies 100's of years ago but now you only shine your fancy light!? DAMMIT GANDALF
Not that he could do that...or maybe he can, I don't really know.

Anyway if it's a prequel then it has to match the tone, so I hope it's a fresh start so it can be it's own thing.

It would be pretty sweet if they covered some of the origins of the world. There was some kick a*** s*** running around in the early days of Arda.

Yeah but they cannot cover the Silmarillion 'cause it's probably too much uninteresting crap to fit in one show.

Like yeah, some of us would find it awesome, but I'm not sure the general public would.

I'm sure they will use all the available Tolkien material to turn this show into Easter Egg city.

Easter Egg country, you mean.

Continent, even.

Well, at least we're on the same page. If this prequel is really original content, they are going to drop that stuff every chance they get.

I was merely correcting you :p

I'm not sure they're going the "oh hey look at how much stuff we can reference in just a few seconds if you stop the episode quickly enough" route.

Silmarillion is untouchable due to copyright issues, IIRC, it’s the reason why stuff like Shadow of War has to change the names of Silmarillion characters in order to use them. It’s almost certainly off limits for use in a show.

Genuinely the first time I've heard about this.
