Goku as a God of Destruction

I've seen many theories, pictures and whatnot on the internet featuring Goku as a God of Destruction. If something will ever happen to Beerus inside DBS timeline, do you believe Goku would most likely be the one to inherit his throne?

I know Dragon Ball is not supposed to be too dark themed, nor would they ever want their beloved, all time hero be associated with anything less than good'n'great, but how would you like the idea?

I envision it like this: Goku reaches new, divine realms of his power. Therefore, he becomes even more power-thirsty and engulfed in trainings. His family becomes more reproachful of his ever-aloof attitude. His friends disapprove of his lack of receptivity. So, he's left to detach from everyone and begins the rituals and trainings to become the new God. Eventually, his friends start on a journey to try and win him back. Especially Vegeta would be the most affected from them all. Because a. Goku will reach levels of powers that would leave him irreversibly behind and b. he grew fond of him.

Opinions?

I can't see Goku ever purposefully destroying anyone.

I love the idea of exploring the dangers of Goku's naivety and thirst for constant challenge and to have it bring him into conflict with his friends and family, they actually criticise and call him out on his mistakes for once. Especially if it's Vegeta who has to make him see reason and Vegeta's like "tone down that saiyan thirst for battle thing a bit you idiot!" However, Goku's not in any way malicious, he would never willingly become a destroyer god.

Gokus tainted his heart with love. He can't even destroy his wifes goods.

I completely agree with you. However, it would be an interesting take on Goku's personality if he either:

- became blinded by power. He was born a bloodthirsty Saiyan and only turned good because of amnesia. Maybe after constantly feeding his power addiction -and maybe, after being rejected at some point by his beloved ones, but that's a delicate aspect that would take a lot to discuss- his mind becomes corrupted and he returns to his primal state. That's where his friends would start out on a whole new saga of trying to make him snap out of it.

or

- viewed this as the best solution to make the best of both worlds. He would receive his daily dose of training and battle satisfaction AND become strong enough to protect his dear ones. He would be like a reformer God, becoming one not to mindlessly destroy planets and innocents, but to take out the evil guys without constantly worrying that he might not have the means to. That's where his companions misinterpret Goku's motives and then again, try to stop him.

I mean I'd prefer that to Goku Black.

I think saiyan's attitude is both an inbuilt will to fight but how that affected their society on mass, becoming 'evil' and bloodthirsty was the most likely outcome from being born with the instinct for battle but it doesn't have to be that way, it's not like evil is programmed in, just the will to fight but then their society reinforced the aggression.

Goku's head bump deleted his pre-programmed mission to destroy sentient life on Earth but it was his raising in different circumstances that stopped him developing cruelty.

Goku being a God of destruction would feel very weird. If anyone Frieza or vegeta should become a God of destruction

Frieza couldn't become one I think. He doesn't have the right state of mind.

Vegeta or Piccolo would fit right in.

Remember how Beerus behaved to King Vegeta...the planet that cooked him a bad meal etc etc ...he was a dick. He only became 'likeable' when he got humbled by zeno's presence ...who made friends with Goku...he also needs the 10 warriors for survival.

Frieza and Beerus are very similar. Frieza is just more sadistic rather than arrogant.

Goku was offered to be God/Kami Sama/Guardian by previous Kami-Sama when he won against Piccolo Jr at 23rd TB.

To which he refused. It wouldnt fit his character. Dude's funny & charming fighter who constantly wants to work on improving himself

God of ......whatever you call it. BS

Hand it to Frieza or Piccolo. Or Broly (not talkin bout shemale abomination we got in DBS, but M8/M10 baddie)

Goku fit as underdog. Veggie as king/prince. Both dont fit as Gods duh...

Goku would object to being the God of Destruction to his deathbed. He said it himself he has no interest in the position. He just wants to fight strong people. Even if being a God of Destruction would give him access to strong opponents, he'd still be shackled by the duties of the job.

Vegeta would probably turn it down too for the sake of his family, even though his personality is better suited for the job.

I could see Piccolo taking up that kind of mantle. He has no real ties to Earth besides the Z Fighters, mainly Gohan, but he could still watch over the place while doing his job.

I can't imagine Goku, Piccolo or Vegeta willing to destroy other races anymore.

The only way I could see it happening is if Goku was convinced into doing it by being told he'd get to fight against strong foes for centuries and that it would also be a way to keep the peace in the universe.

Freeza seems to be the most fit for the Hakaishin position. I'd love to see that.

Freeza is much more cruel than Beerus.

It was established in the Goku Black arc that Beerus can sense evil intent, it must be part of his duty to destroy potential evil or races that are too far gone. We saw him non-nonchalantly destroy people for food but that may just be him keeping up appearances so he's feared as a destroyer god when in actuality the race was overtly evil to begin with. Beerus was cruel to King Vegeta but the saiyans were evil bastards. Obviously, it still requires detachment from mortals to be okay destroying entire civilisations but Beerus doesn't seem to be like Freeza. The latter is genuinely evil, not a necessary evil but a cruel, torturous murderer who doesn't really have reason other than abuse of power to justify his acts and I don't see that ever changing.
