No thread for this one (can't imagine why), thought we might as well have one. Not sure anyone wants to talk about this movie though.

The posters are cool at least.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I like it better than the more recent one. The newer version is more serious and maybe more true to the original vision of Godzilla, but it's also bland and doesn't have much character.

There is a lot of personality in the 1998 version that makes it a comfy watch. It's silly for sure, but there's a charm to it.

I liked this when I was younger. I loved the cartoon, though.

This one is fine, but it just makes Godzilla look too weak. Getting trounced by the military is...meh.

I forgot all about the cartoon until you mentioned it. That show really gained a lot more infamy than the movie ever did. It gave Godzilla other monsters to fight, which is why so many watch the movies in the first place. Also it made him the hero instead of the antagonist.

I didn't mind the military being the main opponent, since this was the first film (whether or not there were sequels planned with further monsters, I don't know), so there was a set up thing happening, and the army is the easiest way to go about fighting Godzilla.

Kind of reminds me of the Ang Lee Hulk movie in that regard.

I think the script is wasted on the talented cast, but I think the cast makes the movie at least watchable. Also, surprisingly, I like the design of Godzilla for some reason. Maybe it's nostalgia.

It was a nice change from previous versions. For the first big budget Hollywood style Godzilla, it fit with the tone and style of the movie.

Yeah the cliffhanger at the end of the first movie hinted at a sequel, in which Godzilla would fight some bug monster nicknamed "Queen B*itch".

He was supposed to fight one in this as well, the Gryphon.

But TriStar couldn't bother, and so, they disappointed Toho.

The idea was to make a realistic Godzilla, which was the concept they had in mind back in 1994.

But because of Jurassic Park they had to turn him into a CGI T. Rex-ified Godzilla, instead of going with something a lot more expensive and faithful.

Gryphon design is sweet as well. It's much more of a Western concept as far as monsters go, but I guess this is much more of a Westernized Godzilla, so that all goes together. I'd pay to see that fight.

A film which will always be a campy fun & nostalgic Godzilla film for me.

It had suprisingly great pacing, fluid screenplay (which caters to anyone ranging from 6 to 60 year old), cool sountrack & purposeful characters thag add into the narration. I find it easily outscoring over Godzilla (2014)
