Crazy Awesome Legend

For centuries, the Jewish people were persecuted and stigmatised. In some cases even driven from their homes. Blamed for economic problems and crime. Nowadays, we're seeing a lot of negative rhetoric about Muslims, similar to how the Jews were viewed. I'm not saying it's anywhere near the same level as the persecution the Jewish people suffered, but I see a lot of similar hatred, paranoia and fear about them. Even talk in some circles of driving them out. It reminds me a lot of how the Jews were treated during 19th century France.

The two instances have completely different core causes.

The current persecution of Muslims in any regard stems from fear of their most extreme members. Any negative rhetoric you see today is a complete disregard for their culture mixing with our own. Honestly it's like water mixing with oil when you start talking about Sharia Law. The world is moving towards a more progressive and understanding quo while Muslim nations tend to still be holding on to Sharia Law which is literally opposite of what we understand of personal freedoms. Very conservative within their religious and social ideals. Very little of this persecution is purely racism, mostly driven by fear of the extremists.

Persecution of Jews wasn't out of fear, but racism.

religious (Jew as Christ-killer),
economic (Jew as banker, usurer, money-obsessed),
social (Jew as social inferior, "pushy," vulgar, therefore excluded from personal contact),
racist (Jews as an inferior "race"),
ideological (Jews regarded as subversive or revolutionary),
cultural (Jews regarded as undermining the moral and structural fiber of civilization).
