We have this toaster that causes a power cut every time it's switched on. Why is it doing this?

The coils are shorting to the chassis somehow. Something inside is broken in a way that is not placing a circuit load on the Toaster plug, and thus is creating an event where the current is exceeding the draw of the breaker box limit. Usually around 10 amperes for kitchen plugs. If it's a GFCI outlet, then the current limit for said outlet is less than that and can trip easier.

If it occurs on all of the same type of outlets on the same breaker set, then the problem is definitely the toaster. It is also possible for the outlet to go bad and cause a breaker pop every time it is turned on. FYI.

You need a new toaster, or to find someone like myself certified to know how to fix it.

Well that's something most people never think to keep a spare of. Well done.

Wow that is a bit excessive. But I guess she's well prepared though.
