The major I have my eyes set on is going to require a lot of math classes but I hate math. I can't get myself to focus for long periods of time in class especially when the class is two and half hours long

Focus on getting your Algebra perfected. Everything is based around Algebra, the rest is just is a subset of that. That's my tip. It's a good one.
If your Algebra struggles, the rest will struggle as well. If you need further specific help with math, feel free to give me a message. I'm always willing to help people understand math problems.

Look, I hate math and the moment I didn't have to take anymore, that was a blessing. For me, anything I can't casually type into a calculator, isn't worth putting the effort for me. If your major requires you to have a lot of something that you don't like, you might wish to think about if its truly the major you want. I remember when I was a child and I wanted to be an architect mostly because my family worked in construction but i realized, I felt no love for it.

I would really say that for a major (and unfortunately I don't know what year you are in so I can't tell how far along your college path you've gotten) but I would always suggest a major that you "like" not what you "want." Many people want to be a doctor or a lawyer or something that makes a lot of money. However, you should do something you like.

As for a two and half hour class, is there anyway you can get something else? I assume such a class since its held so long is basically once a week but that's pointless if you can't focus that long during class. I made sure never to sign up for such a class after the first time. If you can, try to sign up for one of the 50 minute classes or the 1 hour 30 minute classes (Assuming you have these, I'm basing it off my university.) It means having more classes but I think its easy to say that, 50 minute classes are much easier than 2 hours and 30 minutes.

You might even try online classes if they have them in your subjects. For me, Online classes were the best. It allowed me to study and work at my own pace. If I wanted a break, I took a break. if I wanted to not do any work that day, I didn't. There was a personal level of freedom there that I loved. This was especially true as I learned how much education was just "cramming knowledge" down your throat an I thought, if I can just read the book and past the tests, let me do that at my own pace. Especially if the educators put no oomph into their class

Some classes are fun to go to, the teacher's know how to the class worked up. Other teachers do not have this capability though. Unfortunately if you do have online classes,I'm not sure if you still have enough time to switch over.

I can't hep you on math really but honestly if you can, try to switch to classes that don't last as long. You'll take more of them but hey, you'll at least be able to focus there. If you can take online classes, try it out, you might like the freedom. Especially for classes you feel you can easily grasp with or without a teacher. For example one of my online classes was on British History and I thought, I don't need a teacher up in my face telling me what I'm going to use a book for. This is a class that I can easily do on my own.

Math may not necessarily be that class for you but at least you can kind of, spread your classes out a bit more. For me, it was a way to differentiate the classes that were necessary but not difficult and the classes that I definitely needed face to face education. That or I thought the professor was awesome and it was worth coming to class.

I think any thing worth doing is worth struggling through at least once. If nothing else, you become stronger and learn lessons from it. If you didn't learn any material, you've learned that 2.5 hour classes are a joy to sit through... The worst that happens, you fail the class and change majors or retake it. The best that happens, you finish with a good grade and can continue down the path you desire. I struggled through math to become an Engineer. Best thing i've ever done.

Well I'm trying to get into computer science which generally doesn't require a lot of crazy math but there are still a lot math classes they make you take. It's stupid but that's how it is.

A couple years ago I wanted to do computer science, realized I'm going to have to go through a lot of math to get there, and then said screw it and changed majors. Now I'm back to computer science because programming seems like career I can see myself enjoying. I'm taking a programming class for the first time this semester and liking it a lot. This time I'm just hoping I can force myself through the math classes. If I can get myself through all the math I think it'll be worth it

I've just finished a computer science degree myself and while there is a lot of math involved, you need to look at the type of math they're going to make you do. A lot of it is logic based and if you just start to think of it as logic instead of math, the initial scariness will go away.

I got into the habit of taking a voice recording and recording my lecturers so I could play it back when I studied, and also because my attention span can be pretty low for things I'm not entirely motivated to do. One of the best things is to just study outside of class and don't just rely on lecture. I'm not sure how it works in the US but when I struggled with something, I asked my lectuerer for extra worked and constantly emailled them my work to get corrections.

I guess my best tip is to just make use of your professor, they're paid to help you.

One tip I would have for you is to utilize YouTube videos talking about specific topics in whatever Math class you may be in. For instance, if your in Calc 1 and need help learning the Chain Rule for Differentation, then you just type "Chain Rule Derivatives" or something to that effect and many videos will very likely (to almost certainly) pop up showing you step-by-step how to do it and follow along with pencil and paper yourself. You can typically learn more by watching one or a few of these videos in 10 minutes or less compared to struggling for hours/days/ect. on the same topic from lecture and the textbook.

So, YouTube videos from channels like PatrickJMT, Khan Academy, MathBFF, KristaKing, and many more are extremely helpful. The first time I will watch the video, then play it back and pause at the example problem to see if I can work it out myself yet. If not, play the video and work it out simultaneously on the steps you get stuck on until you can work it out independently. Then, refer to textbook examples that are worked out, then questions in the back of section and use a solution manual like from Chegg. If you take these steps, you will definitely pick up on it and it won't be nearly as much of a struggle or take up as much time as you may think. Just a bit of practice goes a long way.

Btw, I am a Senior year Math major in an USA University.

Here are some YouTube channels that may find quite helpful:

1. Understand the basics.
2. Practice .
3. Repeat 1 & 2.

I will say most of my major math troubles came from not completely understanding the math below it, so my recommendation is to master the basics, in which Bryan said is Algebra, and the rest should be fine. As long as you completely focus and get help when you need to then you should come out at the end passing those classes.
