http://horrorfreaknews.com/advanced-screening-jeepers-creepers-3-shut-threats-protest/19928 The director of the Jeepers Creepers movies, Victor Salva, is a known pedophile. Back in the 1980s, he sexually abused several children, and was finally arrested and convicted on four counts in '87; one boy who worked for him on a movie he molested for six years. He was sentenced to three years in prison, but only served eighteen months in a rehabilitation center. There's no debate that what he did was terrible, but do you think he should be allowed to continue making movies? He did enter rehab, apologize to the kid, and it was decades ago that these incidents happened. EDIT: Oh, didn't realize this was in Deep Discussion. It's probably better suited for General Discussion. EDIT2: I should clarify I'm not arguing that he shouldn't be able to make movies. I love the JC movies and I'll definitely see the third. I'm just presenting a debate I've seen on other sites. Edited by Pyrus, Aug 30 2017, 05:09 PM.

Because it's a pedophile. By seeing the movie, you're rewarding a pedophile, thereby telling him he did nothing wrong. And it also puts him in the same position of power that facilitated his incidents in the past. At least, that's the general argument I've seen from people who are adamant about this being a disgusting thing. |

He has already done his time for the crimes he committed. There is really no real legal recourse from preventing him from making movies beyond not passing the MPAA standards. However, there ought to be a way to prevent him from working child actors. I never liked his movies and never personally spent any money to see them so I don't really care if he makss any more since I will never fund more of them by watching them. But as long as he never gets a chance to vicfimize a other person, I also don't care if hd keeps working. |

Salva has paid for his crimes and done his sentencing. It has been nearly 30 years since this incident, if there was any legal ramifications for him being a director, the justice system certainly got over it and hasn't deemed it fitting to punish him for it. People just want to have their petty revenge because they don't want to accept what the system has done. For the people who boycotted the movie, all they care about is getting their form of justice done. And that's idiotic because not only is Salva going to suffer as a director, but so will producers, writers, actors, etc. What Salva did in the past, or hell, what he does right now, has nothing to do with the movie. If Salva needs to be punished directly, then punish him, but don't bring the rest of the crowd down. Especially to satiate this wanton justice bloodlust...of a guy who already paid for his crimes. It's very clear that for some people, they think that there is no second chances and regardless of the sentences, some people are fully guilty and must always pay. It doesn't matter what the system says, it doesn't matter of a judge or jury deems hem innocent or completing their time, they are guilty and must always be punished. And because of the ideology, everyone else has to suffer. It would be like if someone went up and shot OJ Simpsons because they didn't like the verdict. It doesn't matter what you want, or like, or feel. if you got a problem with the system, then go about and try to correct the system. You don't get to put justice in your own hands like your Batman or something. |

He can make all the movies he want as long as the children who are cast in his movies have supervision at all times. He should never be allowed to be alone with them. |

I really don't see how you want to prevent this. Sure he did awful things in the past, but now he's paid for his crimes, you can't punish him forever. Besides, if I go watch the movie I am in no way rewarding his pedophilia. That's ridiculous, I am, if anything, rewarding his movie. |

Yeah, all that's been said above is said by many people in the comments, though granted the comment section is filled with plenty of immature insults. It's a shame they had to cancel a screening for something this stupid. We've known about this for a long time, why comment about it now? That never stopped people like us from enjoying Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2. |

If you change the crime to something else it's easy to see why the logic is flawed there, should someone who has stolen something never be allowed in a shop again? Should someone who completely by accident(and judicially ruled as manslaughter) killed someone while driving never be allowed in a car again? This promotes the idea that you can never really be forgiven or have justice carried out until the day you die, no matter the sentence you receive. You don't have to like him or his movies but he deserves to be free, maybe he still has a thing for children but so long as he never acts on it he's a free man and has every right to the same opportunities as one. Just everyone has the right to turn him away. Overall I find it kinda dumb to celebrate other directors and not allow those convicted of crimes to be celebrated purely for their works in movies. How do we know Martin Scorsese isn't an extremely prolific paedophile who's just got away with it for years? If this was found to be true his movies wouldn't suddenly be terrible, The Departed wouldn't be the worst movie ever because a paedophile made it. |

For being so liberal, you all are going very easy on a proven pedophile. Yes, by all means, let the man make a movie, but if he is a registered sex offender he should never be allowed in close proximity to children again. Pedophiles don't just "change" with rehabilitation and therapy. Yes, they can suppress their desires, but it never just goes away. It's a horrible crime to prey upon children, and you guys are comparing it to thievery, which is just asinine. False dichotomy. I don't see anything wrong with allowing a free man to do what he wants, as long as children are not involved. There is also nothing wrong with boycotting this movie if you don't want to give money to a man who preyed upon children. |

Depending on your viewpoint, being easy on a proven pedophile would probably be incredibly liberal. But yeah, they should be able to make movies, under certain restrictions (shouldn't be able to be part of any project that involves children in any way). If people wanna boycott their projects, they're obviously free to, but they should have the freedom to make the movies and have them play in cinemas if the cinemas themselves don't object to it. |

I think I worded it wrong. What I had meant to imply is that this seems to be the opposite of the left-wing mentality that I'd been accustomed to seeing here. We're all so quick to call people racists, yet we go easy on a pedophile. Hope that clarifies what I meant. It's just a very strange double-standard, I suppose...? But yes, I completely agree that barring any free man from doing something like this is unjust; however, I can empathize with the outrage. Pedophilia is not something that anyone should have mercy or sympathy for, in my opinion. |

But...so? They can't help it if they're attracted to children, it's a sexuality just not a legal one. It is no different to being gay in a time or a place where it's illegal. Whether or not you act on your illegal sexuality is where problems arise, like you said paedophiles can't change who they are so...what's your solution? You make it sound like every paedophile is condemned to always be trying to have sex with children which is just false, this guy in particular did many wrongs and has paid for them, you're in no place to know whether or not he's learned from his mistakes. It's pretty much the same as how people act as though every homosexual is extremely promiscuous and immoral, spreading AIDS everywhere and all that nonsense, the only difference is that the desires of a paedophile are most definitely wrong when they act on it. And no, it's hardly false dichotomy when we're talking about the general act of committing a crime. You wouldn't condemn a murderer to never be allowed near people again as if they have some uncontrollable blood thirst, that if they're within five feet of another person they'll just flip and kill them. It's almost exclusively paedophiles people paint this way and it doesn't make any sense, every paedophile is considered to be some rabid psycho who can't possibly resist their desires. You can't paint a whole group of people with the same brush. |

Woah, woah, woah... Now we're comparing pedophilia to homosexuality? Isn't that the comparison the LGBT community has been fighting against for years?
My solution is to not allow them near children. Shouldn't that be obvious?
I never said that. He can learn from his mistakes, sure, but he should not be allowed near children.
Pedophilia is not comparable to homosexuality. Quit playing with this false dichotomy. It's dangerous.
Lol, what? First-degree murderers typically go to prison for life, or close to life, for that exact reason.
It doesn't make any sense that people treat pedophiles this way? Really? The man in question molested children. Defending or sympathizing with that sort of behavior is insane. Do I think that every pedophile is some horrible rapist? No, not unless they've committed rape, but proven pedophiles do not deserve the same treatment as a homosexual, and insinuating that they do is creating a false dichotomy. Really? We're defending pedophiles now? wOw |

Honestly, I can't sympathize at all with the outrage. The man's actions of 30 some years ago, of which he has already paid for his crimes, has nothing to do with his movie. It's not about supporting a pedophile, it's about supporting a movie. Nobody is being easy on pedophilia, but again, this has nothing to do with pedophilia. People need to differentiate the art from the artist. |
