Anyone believe in ghosts/spirits but not religiously?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I fall in this category. There's too much out there for me to say no compared to religion.
Too much going on there but spirits and such seem like an absolute that applies everywhere.

Anyone had any experiences or know anyone who has?

My family are pretty big on it and often go to psychic readings, which obviously can be a bunch of nonsense but often many weird things can be said.
My grandfather passed away some years ago and my mother went to a reading to try see how he was doing, somehow the psychic knew that we put a can of Irn Bru in his coffin.

To get something so random correct to me says there's definitely something out there.

I believe 99% of people out there who claim to be psychics are just liars seeking attention or money but there's many cases of people getting things correct, extremely accurately so, I don't believe you can just slap a "coincidence" label on absolutely everything, not when there's so much.
Also I just mean ghosts and stuff, not the truly whacky shiz like healing crystals and whatnot.

Or if you don't believe, why exactly don't you?

For me it's always been something more tangible than Gods and the like.

I believe in ghosts but I think there's a scientific explanation for them.

I have visions of the future.

Yeah I believe they can definitely be explained somehow.

My guess would be ones consciousness merely leaves the body and a ghost is when it can collect itself for a short period of time and become able to do something in a moment of clarity.
I am of course a leading scientist in this field so what do I know, everything!

I don't get why people offer a firm no like they can't possibly exist, there's been references to them throughout all known history. It's fine to not believe of course but to say it's impossible is another thing.

Seems like a lot of people associate them with religion though, like if ghosts exist heaven and hell must also exist but they don't have to be part of the same thing at all really.

Oh man I hope ghosts are real. I want to be a ghost lol

I'm Catholic so yeah I believe in spirits

I can understand believing in ghosts and not following a religion though. There are things in the world, even physical like dark matter and radio waves, that we can't see but we know they exist. We're extremely far from knowing everything about our world so who's to say there aren't ghosts?

Ghosts & evil spirits are real, as much as Gods & religion do

I've had dreams of scary, horrific womans who I swear never came across in my life. You tell me just where da hell you find woman dressed in white, mental patient wardrobe with reddish eyeballs & blood dripping outta them & pale white skin grinning at every goddamn floor I'm going. Or black figure with hair covering her entire face standing just opposite the graveyard lookin at my direction.

I could share another 10 stories but since this is a community website, I refuse to allow my personal experience to be viewed by public

I won't believe in anything that doesn't have a scientific / reasonable explanation to it.

I mean, what are ghosts or spirits even supposed to be like? Some ectoplasmatic dudes? Real-life holographic copies of dead people that troll around the living world? Nomadic random electromagnetic fields? Why are people even making such a big deal over their imagination sprouts? And why should I embrace such beliefs, just because traditional superstitions want me to? For that matter I could believe black cats are magical fluffballs that possess the super-power to bring people bad luck and basically secretly rule the world. Those would be my arguments. I'm pretty much the Doubting Thomas.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I don't believe in it because I haven't seen or heard anything concrete enough for me to believe in it. I would never say it's impossible, just like I wouldn't say the same about religion, but I believe it's highly unlikely. I think it's just another thing people want to be true because most humans can't seem to handle the concept of death. People are always clinging to some form of afterlife and this is no different.

Eh I don't think being a ghost sounds glamorous really, often it sounds pretty horrific to be tortured soul forever.

But they're completely different things. There's never been any sort of tangible evidence for having 7 years of bad luck after breaking a mirror, however many for walking under a ladder etc etc

I'd say that's a totally different area of superstition, one which generally I agree is kinda silly.

What would you say to the instances where people seem to have genuinely contacted spirits and found out information they shouldn't know?
Do you really think it makes sense to just put "FAKE NEWS" on all of them without a second thought?
Stuff like this is in the same area of spiritualness:

https://www.elitereaders.com/reincarnated-boy-solves-own-murder/

The only logical solution to that I can see is that there's more than what we know to the world, that's just one of many too.
Undoubtedly there will be fake ones out there but the accuracy of many of them is freaky.

I could throw a stone somewhere at random and say that there's a body under there, someone who was stabbed in the back and then find said body but really, what are the chances?

Apparently there's been a ghost roaming my mom's house for decades. Her boyfriend's sister claims to feel and hear them so that's how I got that info. Not sure I believe it but it always got me thinking.

My grandmother on my father's side says she believes we have a special, err, not sure if I should call it a ghost but like a spirit, I guess? Someone who watches over us and makes sure we're alright. That's another thing I'd like to believe because it makes me feel safe, but not sure I can.

My family get it a lot with animals, our old dog used to nudge you in the back of the leg and some time after she died my mum felt that and considered it to be Lady telling her she's alright.

Of course you could just say she felt a weird sensation in her leg and attributed it to that, can't say you'd be wrong.

Not long before he died my granddad said that the dogs were there with him, they'd had many dogs over the years and had great bonds with all of them.
And it wasn't like he was hallucinating seeing them, his memory was basically gone also but he had a moment of peace when he saw them.

Perhaps he was just senile but maybe they were there to greet him, knowing he didn't have long.

My brother actually claims to have seen a ghost in his room in the middle of the night. He saw a big white figure near his door.

He doubts it was hallucination too. He was just sitting in bed and he remembers being wide awake and moving so it wasn't sleep paralysis. He has no history of crazy hallucinations either. Just sitting in bed and out of nowhere it appeared. And

He somehow thought to grab the cross near his bed and hold it up and it went away

And it wasn't some quick thing. He saw it and was there for a while. He couldn't believe it at first and it was just standing there for a while and eventually he's like what the f*** this is actually happening

I can't think of any scientific explanation and I'm pretty sure there have been plenty of either people who have seen the same thing so why wouldn't I believe him? Ghosts, is literally the most logical explanation that our family could think of.

He's not even one of those really hard core religious people either. He acknowledges science and tries to find logical explanations to things too but this is one instance where he's very sure of what he saw

Honestly how do you explain that s***? It's a little scary how real it seems when he tells the story and how certain he is of it lol
