Why is Trump painted out to be much worse than Sanders or Clinton?

Legitimization is what matters here. This isn't about the word "sorry" it's about "how" the phrase was said. You're going to ask me if he was remorseful? He made his apology, noted this mistake that would probably never leave him and has not shown a connection to this issue since. You can talk about all his other mistakes but as far as we can see, he stands true to the notion that he doesn't wish to be part of this past of his. A past he once again admits was wrong and doesn't go about trying to, move partial blame to another group.

He was wrong, he admits he was wrong, it may never be forgiven so the only thing he can do now is move forward and express his remorse as many times as possible.

A person who is truly remorseful, doesn't try to spend blame on another person or group. They don't try to dictate that a problem that is clearly caused by a specific group is somehow the problem of multiple sides. Trump has failed to be legitimate and none of us are buying it. Instead of being absolute and concrete, Trumps remarks come off as ambiguous.

Or in other words......

Nobody who is truly sorry says "I am sorry, but...." or "I am a little but sorry and this is why I am still right."

Noted. Nobody ever change. Got it!
Is that what you got from my posts? Really?

So if David Duke comes out tomorrow, apologies for his actions while expressing (seemingly) geniune remorse and sorrow towards his past actions you would be accepting of that?

Ever heard of saving face?

There's no record of Byrd trying to just save face. At no point after his renouncement did he affiliate himself with the KKK up until his death in 2010.

Do you think Clinton was familiar with Byrd because of his previous connection to KKK?

It would certainly be a start. We'd watch his behavior and see if this remorse becomes legitimate. You know what the difference too between Trump's response and Byrn's? Trump was expected to be remorseful and call out such discrimination directly but Byrn freely chose to denounce his involvement with the KKK. The question asked to him was "What was your greatest mistake" and so unlike Trump, he wasn't even put on the spot.

Byrn could easily have chose something else, try to move to an apology of something completely different if he didn't truly feel remorseful about his actions within the KKK. Instead he personally chose this notion as the greatest mistake he made. He made this apology in 1997 and continued to make the same apology in 2005.

"I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times . . . and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened." -Robert Byrn

Nearly 8 years later, he still makes the same remark. When it comes to his remorse about joining the KKK, what reasons do we have to not believe him?

Byrd has gone on record saying affiliation with the KKK is something that would go on to hamper his political career for years to come, so there's more than an incentive to save face there. Furthermore, he's also said his membership in the KKK was in the best interest of his ambitions and that he despises anything resembling "negroes" and "race mongrels."

The fact that people defend such a disgusting man while blasting Trump who's never held affiliation with racist groups or done more than condemn them "a day too late" shows a lot of how biased the left really is. I still think Trump sucks, but Byrd most likely has committed a number of vile hate crimes against non-whites for merely being descended from different tribes than his, and used phrases like "white nigels" even toward the end of his life. Even if he apologized, to assume he's now somehow an angel is laughable.
