Nolan's masterpiece & despite being a total stranger to the comics, the trilogy showcases how a superhero film should be

Batman Begins (2005), Dark Knight (2008) & Dark Knight Rises (2012) all had masterful direction, top notch acting by Heath Ledger, Liam Neeson, Tom, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hatheway, epic score by Hans Zimmer. Just abt everything abt these films were fantastic

I personally feel none of the Marvel films (except maybe Civil War) can match the depth & intensity of Nolan's trilogy.

Thoughts?

They're very well made for a series that is trying to take a more "realistic" approach with Batman, filled with actors that, for the most part, deliver, even if none of the characters are really made justice. I've never been a big fan but I respect this trilogy.

The other entry in the Nolanverse series, Batman: Gotham Knight, is my actual favourite. Because it's not completely limited by the realism and Batman is free to behave like his comic book self, and the same goes for the other characters and Gotham city. We get the fandom's favourite, Kevin Conroy, to voice him and plenty of great anime studios to animate the six shorts focused on this Batman's tale taking place between the events of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I disagree with the notion that this dark and gritty style is how superhero movies should be like. Good acting and good cinematography aside, if all heroes were like Nolan's Batman, with less variety and less entertainment being the focus of it all, the entire genre would be no fun, it would be lackluster and boring, while it is in fact filled with plenty of colorful and enjoyable characters, Batman included who isn't all about being completely black.

And even though the MCU movies are all about presumably taking something seriously just to throw a dumb joke every five seconds and ruin the tone, at least they have somewhat colorful designs. For the heroes that is. I give credit to Nolan for at least keeping some of the designs cool, even if not entirely faithful (though the MCU gets the same bad rap). Nolan's Bane and Scarecrow still look and act like actual supervillains. Batroc, an actual supervillain, loved by fans for how comedic and badass he is, is reduced to a slightly more skilled fodder merc in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and looks nothing like Batroc. Same goes for 80% of the MCU cast.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I didnt say every superhero film needs to be dark to be entertaining.

Felt in the midst of chaotic green-screen, cgi-fest with messed-up plots creeping into most recent superhero films, Nolan's Batman trilogy utilized 99% practical effects.

Dark Knight for instance had 4 acts, each surpassing the other where most superhero films over last 8 years have been struggling to even be moderately entertaining

I personally liked Louis's 2008 Incredible Hulk & Captain America's trilogy. Those films were dark, brooding, realistic yet managed to be engaging

But hey, Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy & both Avenger films were bright, larger-than-life, blockbusters and I loved em as well.

I remember when I was a kid of being absolute jerk to Batman films with my imagination of "where dafuq are super-powered alien/villain baddies in these films? All I see are goons, thugs & mob bosses around. Crap!!!"

But I've grown to appreciate the approach Nolan desired which actually feels like a fresh air in the middle of y'know generic, blow-stuff-in-ya-face kinda summer blockbusters.

Well, if it's the more supervillains you want, you've got the cartoons for that.

They do a far better job at accurately portraying the characters.

The best made Batman in mainstream media, but I still think Tim Burton's Batman movies are my favorites still. I love the quirky feel of it and the cheesy acting.

I didn't think Tom Hardy's acting was particularily cheesy, he just had a cheesy tool.

For me there's nothing cheesy, it helps me love a lot of stuff from multiple eras.

I mean, that's a way of looking at it. For me, there's many types of acting and they aren't necessarily bad. It's how you do it.
