Plymouth off to a bad start with a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough.

Yeah, hard to argue against Manchester United. Lukaku seems worth every penny they paid and Matic was a solid signing too. City had a good window too.

Man Utd made some great signings, but Watford's a shout aswell.

In the Championship it's definitely Wolves, even if it's questionable business.

Yeah Manchester United did well in the summer, Lindelof hasn't really worked out but there is plenty of time. Lukaku scoring plenty and Matic really surprised me with how well he's done, I thought he'd regressed at Chelsea but he's been great at United, class strike just now as well!

International football, but did anybody see the penalty awarded against Northern Ireland last night? An appalling decision, and in such an important game too.

Yeah I saw it. Hopefully N.Ireland get two or three goals in the next leg.

England vs Germany tonight. I don't have much hope of a good victory.

Liverpool have signed Virgil van Dijk for a hefty £75 million. That's a lot of money, even in today's market, but he has the potential to be worth it. At 26 he probably had at least 5-6 years in his defensive prime. I think a partnership of him and Matip is extremely solid. They're both physically imposing while remaining pretty quick and are good enough on the ball to fit into Klopp's style of play.

I do worry that his impact on our defence might be negligible though, if we don't upgrade at goalkeeper. Mignolet, for all his shot stopping brilliance, is just too prone to mistakes to be part of a good defence. Even if an improvement in the talent ahead of him gives him less to do, it's never good when you have to worry that your keeper might balls up the one or two things he has to do all game.

Still, van Dijk is better than any defender in our current squad, so can't complain too much.

Plymouth Argyle are finally starting to kick into gear as well. Our new midfielder is decent. Cliftci or whatever his name was from Celtic was a donkey.

So, Liverpool have sold Coutinho and signed van Dijk. I'm actually optimistic that as a pure swap (even though it obviously wasn't), it doesn't actually make u a worse team, and arguably could make us slightly better. Coutinho is great, probably our best player, but we don't lack quality going forward. Salah, Mane, & Firmino are still a fearsome trio without Coutinho and Klopp's system brings goals out of everyone. The signing of van Dijk, if all goes to plan, should shore up our weakness in defence (or at least steady it), which should make up for the attacking loss. That's before we sign a replacement attacker too, which we most likely will (and before Keita arrives).

Toumani Diagouraga has left Argyle. He was a really good midfielder who just started to score goals. I don't know if they can replace him.

So, Sanchez has gone to Man Utd. Great signing for them, and I also think Arsenal didn't do too badly getting Mkhitaryan in the swap considering the contract situation didn't give them much leverage.

Edit: Didn't wanna double post, Arsenal have agreed a fee with Dortmund for Aubameyang. I think both he and Mkhitaryan might end up making them better than the lackadaisical version of Sanchez they've had this season (assuming they both adapt quickly, which is never a certainty). I wonder why no bigger teams came in for Aubameyang. He was linked with Barcelona in the summer and it's strange to think nobody else wanted him for what is a fairly reasonable price in today's market.
