Wanted to make you all aware of something on the net that has been around for a while now. But still gets people, mainly the elderly. ![]() My grandfather clicked on a link the other day that redirected him to a .info site that immediately began spamming a popup to his browser. The site was called pc-alert-garbagevalues.stream The above image is what popped up. What he did next was what you shouldn't do. He called the number. When you call the number, you inform the person on the other line that you are currently connected to their website which they can then use to take over your computer. So the Scammer did so. Then, the scammer immediately download https://get.gotoassist.com/ And closed the webpage. He began to move his cursor around wildly and open command windows and look at IP addresses and such to make my 76 year old grandfather believe he was hacked. Little did he know the hacker he was talking to. After a few minutes of talking, the guy insisted that he was microsoft support, and could get rid of himself "the hacker" in the computer for a nominal price of $375. That's when he called me to see what I thought of the price tag, and if it was a good idea to go ahead and do it to get rid of the hacker. I of course told him to hang up the phone and turn off the computer to give to me to clean. But you should all teach your elderly of this trick. They fall for it so easily. https://www.thinkfirefly.com/blog/scareware-its-a-trap |
