It truly was a Shawshank redemption

You'll probably need to be more specific. What aspect of it?

Well, the feeling of guilt is an emotion. You don't exactly have control over feeling it, so it's hard to have an opinion on it. It's just a byproduct of being alive and having an intelligent brain.

I think it's an important emotion though. It keeps people's morals in check. I think we can have a tendency to let it eat away at us though, and with things that don't warrant such a strong emotion. It's important to listen to your guilt because often it means you've done something wrong, but it's just as important to be able to separate warranted guilt from unwarranted. The best course of action is to step back and try and think 'how would I view somebody else if they told me that they did the thing I'm feeling guilty for doing?'. That usually puts things in perspective.
